The modern research ecosystem of online tools and communities is controlled by for-profit companies. But we think that researchers should be the priority - not the product. So, we're announcing Aster ID: not-for-profit Atmosphere account hosting for researchers.

I’ve been playing with MySky. In some ways it’s not as effective in surfacing new stuff but you’re making me wonder whether that’s a good thing - a quieter feed that’s easier to break from

This is smart, and I’ve thought about it before, but never jumped on it as I felt there’s a good chance someone would get missed at some point 😅

I really hope WCAG adopts APCA, I do find it does actually perform more sensibly in practice

I’ve been super excited for this to progress, though the excitement has been dampened somewhat by the concerns raised by the assemblyscript folks

There’s something to be said for the community dynamics and at least sense of agency this supports though. Admittedly not sure how to really measure that in any meaningful way though, just a gut feeling.

Could you expand more on what you mean by leads and active projects?

This is probably dumb/impossible to be robust, but is there a way to combine this with endo/ses to support sandboxed scripts with DOM access?

I've been thinking a lot recently about how participatory science can be a key part of creating more just systems that can solve critical global challenges. I'm grateful to have the opportunity to pull together a set of incredibly thoughtful, experienced folks in our field who I greatly respect.

Something I’ve been thinking about recently: A lot of useful discoveries come from “the process” - understanding a system, seeing its behavior, getting curious, playing with it, the surprising finds along the way. I’m concerned that by “abstracting” the process we’ll significantly harm that

Officially on a self-hosted PDS - cheers @tranquil.farm! Is this the start of my atproto era? We shall see :D

An important step toward practical RNA design for health, environment, and technology interventions, the advent of deep learning methods that can take up these tasks, and a model presented by @eternagame.org for breakthroughs from AI-human collaboration and co-development.

CC @chrisshank.com I think it was you I talked with about this a while ago? Or @ronentk.me? Or both? 😅

I’d previously been thinking about self-governed community spaces as a mechanism for self-selected curation and trust boundaries in large systems, but *shared context* really hits on something I hadn’t realized about what makes that effective for collaboration

BTW is there a mechanism for concurrent task dependencies? Eg "I want to run my e2e tests in watch mode, so I need to trigger backend:start and wait till its online, and frontend:watch and have its initial build complete"

Jonathan Romano @luxaritas.com · 30/07/2026
Oops never responded! I suppose the key is being able to support custom tasks including commands that are run, caching behavior (inputs/outputs), etc, which looking at viteplus.dev/guide/run it looks like it does? I feel like I had run into a potential concern but not seeing it now

Jonathan Romano @luxaritas.com · 22/07/2026
Also I’m weird and use NixOS so system install of vite+ doesn’t really work 😅

Jonathan Romano @luxaritas.com · 22/07/2026
Definitely looking forward to full Vue support. Would also definitely appreciate knobs to tube oxfmt à la dprint (from what I’ve heard of it). I’m still not totally sure how vite+ fits into a multi-language project or where there’s eg Docker service deps. I should probably explore mise.

Marched in a parade today with the drum corps I’m in. It was _soup_. Both from the humidity and actual rain 😅

Curious how you’d define puzzle platformer. Like would 10 Second Ninja X or Cue count?

Out of curiosity have you looked at any of the social impact (tech) job boards? I've tripped across a couple but never really dug so curious how good (or even known) they are

Among other comments here I’d also say loss of intentionality. The experience is almost arbitrary (probabilistic, whatever). There’s no intention in why it would do what it does even at a pretty high level, plus it relies way more on inference of user intention rather than explicit instruction.

Been thinking about this a fair amount recently (especially as I’ve been doing a bunch of proposal writing and such) - how even mundane writing tells you something about the person who wrote it.

This somehow has the perfect aesthetic blend between LEGO Universe (the colors and the trees, especially), LEGO Island (map), and… Super Mario n64? I know it didn’t do dithering like that but my knowledge of titles that would is not great 🫣

This interestingly mirrors discussions I heard when I was around the IRCv3 specification crowd, though in that case more specifically focus on backwards compatibility, but there’s also an element of different client capability (…and historically, differing spec conformance)

I might add lack of ability to explore intent, connection, …
000
Jonathan Romano @luxaritas.com · 12/06/2026
I mean I’m sure that the intent is that it starts in reverse then flips to normal order. And it kinda makes sense from a user intent aspect. But it still doesn’t read. Is this a metaphor for algorithmic feeds?

By which I mean “do I have the capability to” as a cheeky self-awareness bit rather than being a request. English language ambiguity strikes again!

Beyond stuff like instruments and so, I imagine you could apply this to the audio directly with a bunch of time series features à la tsfresh. You can probably get pretty far with stuff like Fourier transforms, etc
