I know most of you guys don't go on the other app but the pope posted an anti AI/ pro artists statement yesterday, and the ensuing cope and memes is really funny

Pope Leo XIV
@Pontifex

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

2016: I will never fight a holy war

2019: Pope Leo I am ready launch me towards the nearest data center

some AI guy saying he makes christian children's books with AI asking the pope if that is ok then and someone posting a meme react with the pope holding a baseball bat saying 'did I stutter'

it's crazy how much i grew to hate genshin in early 2023 from both the tedious grind and the horrible fandom, but all the obnoxious genshin fandom rejects plagued hsr after while genshin genuinely got way better and my love for it returned in the skirk update. how the tables have turned.

only reason i play it is because it's easy on my time (i run it on auto play while working). i just pull for characters i like who are either pre established or have designs/animations i gravitate to. my quest tab has been left pending on purpose 😂

had a chaotic week, i won't lie. both physical and mental health problems got me so hard, to the point i have memory blanks which happens to me in stress situations. however, i'm proud of myself for finishing that amv i planned for a long time. it felt like a sweet closing chapter.

It's sad how little anything in India matters outside. The BBC has more and slightly better coverage of the current protests in India than The Guardian and even Al Jazeera. Al Jazeera at least has R Gandhi's brief detention on their front page. India is irrelevant on the scale of world news.

Bellingcat has been monitoring student protests in India. Police initially denied reports protesters were met with violence at a July 20 march, although later acknowledged injuries to protesters and officers. Social media videos showed tear gas deployed and batons used by police against protestors.

Thousands of young people from India’s Cockroach Janta Party are marching on parliament. It’s the latest protest movement that has been sweeping across the Global South - the young who feel they’re being ignored by the elite.

Delhi police say the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protesters, who want education reforms, don't have permission for the march.

I posted this on my youtube and it goes here too.

Probably my best means to avoid some sorcery sniping this post, because I've heard media censorship and post takedowns are really ramped up here at the moment. Not a surprise to me, to be honest. On the World Press Freedom Index, India is ranked 157 out of 180 countries. Surprised?

Unfortunately, this has become such a normal part of our life that when my partner (based in another country) first said my country is a dictatorship years ago, I felt like I was going crazy.

But a nation that allows its cops to inflict violence on children at a peaceful protest against the corruption of the Ministry of Education? That is indeed a dictatorship. Our domestic mainstream news channels aren't spreading this, most definitely by order of the authorities.

This protest has gone way beyond the issues of students as well. 70,000+ people were at that demonstration by Jantar Mantar. People stopped what they were doing to join in and find release for problems with the system.

Unemployment, classeism, examination scandals, police brutality, misogyny, discrimination against Muslims, complacency in the Manipur violence, queer rights.

Entire major roads and metro services were closed at Delhi. And in other cities, there's notices being put forward that gatherings exceeding more than five people are temporarily prohibited. Some areas experienced enforced internet shutdowns.

They deployed tear gas on students. This isn't even a subject on politics anymore, this is basic morality we are talking about. Hurting a child is never okay and anyone who does that is evil.

I've had enough of the years of being disillusioned by living under this terrible government. I love my country, but I hate those that have ruled it since 2014.

Jai Hind.

Not the biggest protest movement since Quit India (that would be the nation-wide anti-CAA protests in 2020), but it is growing rapidly. Meanwhile, a variety of other protests by marginalised Indian populations are being buried, like the Adivasi-led Ken-Betwa protest, cleared by cops today:

Ken-Betwa project protest ends abruptly after 15 days as police clear site, hospitalise protesters on hunger strike
