No cheating. Post the last photo of the sky from your camera roll.
A colobus monkey clambering along the top of rope in the treetops. He has a black body, with a fringe of white fur that rings his back, and a majestic in tuft of white fur at the end of his tail. He looks like he’s maybe heading off to get lunch.

Having enough money that you never worry about it removes a whole load of unhappiness. Thiel and Musk are just wealth addicts, like people who spend too much time hooked on a mobile game, but instead of points it’s money. Rowling is not in that league financially but just loves causing misery.

Agreed. You’d put delicates on a shorter, cooler cycle and consider them clean when they came out. Why would a polycotton shirt be different? Better for the clothes too.

A pastiche of the cover art style from “Now” compilation albums, but it says “NOW WHAT I’M WITH ISN’T IT ANYMORE”, a quote from the character Abe Simpson in “The Simpsons”

Sure, but it’s a very specific technique. If you went to a regular tattoo artist and asked them to draw eyebrows on you with a tattoo gun it would not look the same.

Oh weird, me too. Like late 90s or early 2000s. I wonder if this is a common Mandela effect.

My theory is that it costs the studio $0 to have the performers say “step-brother” at the start and after that it’s 100% vanilla porn. That way they get the kinkies hooked and the rest of us can fast forward the first few mins.

This just came up on my feed so I don’t really have the context of what you’re pro or anti, but yeah, I do hate when things are named with empty words like utility/service/data/info/helper. Don’t get me started on “BaseWhatever” in OO langs.

When the Simpsons began, the idea of one working person being able to support a partner and three kids was totally viable.

Yeah I don’t get it. It was a trope before fesshole too. Must just be a bodily reaction that some people get. Even when I’ve been blackout drunk, shitting myself wasn’t a risk.

And I feel sorry for the pixel artists, but you have to acknowledge that pixel art is extremely niche.

The best solution for websites that want you to able to download images is to serve as webp, with a menu option to get the original file
100
Neil de Carteret @lumphammer.com · 22/06/2026
No, sending PNG is not a solution. PNGs are lossless, which means they’re HUGE.
100
Neil de Carteret @lumphammer.com · 22/06/2026
No, webp does not “look worse”. JPEG and webp both have sliding compression scales and webp is generally accepted to look better at a given file size (or be smaller for a given quality level) than jpeg.
100
Neil de Carteret @lumphammer.com · 22/06/2026
You have understand that websites are paying for bandwidth, not to stock your photo library. Sending JPEG by default for everyone is going to cost more.
100
Neil de Carteret @lumphammer.com · 22/06/2026
Why is there so much animus against .webp? The only reasons I can see are 1. you’re nicking images off websites and you don’t have tools to handle webp, and 2. Pixel art get smushed more by webp than jpeg.

This is a fantastic story and I’m going just ignore the bit where the optician would have had to dust your face with luminol, which I don’t think is standard practice these days. And for those who know, yes I’m putting myself on the fucking list right now.

I’m not in football fandom at all. What’s going on when a football fan does something like this? Is it a genuine belief that a supporter of a rival team must be bad/talentless/whatever? Or the sense of tribal belonging is its own reward, and listening to music by a supporter of a rival is betrayal?

For medical professionals, it’s because you, the very smart and worldly anon, may understand the medical terms, lots of people don’t. Children, people with learning disability or who have English as a second language. And nothing is lost because you also understand “poo”.

And to your second assertion: bandwidth bills are a huge headache for website owners. WebP gives equivalent quality to JPEG for fewer bytes, which means lower bills. That’s why it was created.

Neil de Carteret @lumphammer.com · 16/05/2026
I mean, it’s supported by a *lot* of software these days. iOS, Android, Windows, MacOS, every Linux desktop I’ve used in recent years. Affinity Studio. In fact it was Adobe who were the laggards, it took ages to get WebP support in Photoshop. Where are you seeing it not supported?

100%. That CVE was a buffer overflow, perfect territory for a Rust port. It was a mark against that particular decoder, not against the format as a concept.
180
Neil de Carteret @lumphammer.com · 15/05/2026
Atrocious typing there, sorry. The security argument is rubbish too - there was a CVE in 2023, but, like, decoders for other formats have had CVEs too. That’s how software works.

Im also guessing that none of them pay the hosting costs for a website, because of they did they would turn into zealous preachers of the church of WebP.

A few people have asked the same question in this thread, and nobody has given an answer. There’s a lot of impassioned hatred though. I’m guessing they don’t like it because it when they right-click/download images, whatever antiquated OS they’re using doesn’t preview them?

It can double fuck right off when the object is something incredibly vague, like “Shop bargains!” or “Shop gifts!” Like, ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING CAN BE A BARGAIN OR A GIFT.
