In 2022, Lumikha was impacted by a fraud attack that left the platform with nearly $2,000 in payment processor debt. While the main focus of this campaign is making the platform sustainable going forward, one-time donations also help reduce that balance and move Lumikha toward a healthier future.

You can help! If 70 people support at $5/month, the marketplace can be sustained. Thank you to everyone for their ongoing support! Without hitting this fundraising goal, the marketplace will likely have to close. #cosplay

If we can reach $350/month in recurring Ko-fi memberships, the platform can continue operating long-term.

Even small monthly support makes a difference.

We have so much to be proud of as a community! It's been such a joy to meet other like-minded cosplayers and help folks rehome their costumes. But keeping Lumikha online comes with real costs: $350/month for hosting and essential tools. For most of the past 5 yrs, I’ve covered this personally.

we as a community have so much to be proud of!

i have loved creating a space for cosplayers to buy and sell their costumes.

but running a marketplace comes with real monthly costs.

To keep the platform online - including hosting, platform infrastructure, a custom homepage, and essential tools - Lumikha costs about $350 per month to operate.
For most of the past five years, these costs have been covered personally.

My goal now is to make Lumikha sustainable through community support rather than relying on one person to keep it running.

I had several instances after this, including someone saying to their friend, "Look at that Black Deku!" (They weren't black) It's ok. You can just say I'm a cute Deku. I hope we can have more open conversations about what comments are really uncomfortable to hear in cosplay!

I'm sure a lot of people don't mean any harm, but hearing people "other" your cosplay can really hurt and make a cosplayer feel different when they should get the happiness of being complimented just like anyone else.

Navigating social situations can be tricky, especially in such a diverse hobby, so here's a quick cosplay tip guide with a few do's and don'ts! ✨ 🧵on what inspired this post

DO's: Compliment other cosplayers on their cosplay!
Greet fellow cosplayers with excitement over your shared love
Ask questions about a cosplayer's work
Have fun with cosplay!
DONT'S
Specify their gender, race, disability in a compliment.
Treat cosplayers like their characters...they aren't!
Expect full tutorials on how a cosplayer created their costume
Feel like you have to be a "content creator"

Now more than ever sourcing second hand for costumes should become a part of the cosplay community. Even if you can't find what you're looking for, you may find things for others, or be able to rehome pieces you'll never wear again.

This past weekend, Lumikha Cosplay Resale temporarily closed. Thank you to all who have supported us. As a small business owner I often struggle to reach out for help, as I take on all of the day to day operations of the marketplace and the financial burden of running a marketplace. #cosplay

In the past 4.5 years, Lumikha has rehomed hundreds of costumes, props, wigs and more.

We’ve hosted 5 in person cosplay markets, rehoming 75+ items at these pop up events alone.

Due to financial hardship, the repeated abuse of the platform (offsite transactions), attacks by scammers, and the increase in cost of maintaining the platform, Lumikha Cosplay Resale is currently down.

If you would like to support the platform moving forward, please consider supporting on Ko-fi, where we have migrated all donations and support.

I’m doing my best to keep the platform going, but it has honestly been very difficult to do so in the last year.
