Homemade ice cream is done. I have a book, a breeze, and space to breathe. It bears repeating here that you’re not crazy just probably overworked, over stimulated, and over caffeinated. (That last one may only apply to me🤣) Today is a good day to unplug and reset.

I hate how much of life has switched to typing on tiny screens. I am a big guy and I have huge fingers. Add a dash of ADHD and you get a near constant stream of garbled text every time I try to type anything from my phone. My most commonly used key is backspace and yet the typos persist.

Thought I’d tag @renay.bsky.social. I know we’re a little lye to hot the October deadline but they still have the tally on the sight and it would be cool to hit the goal if possible since Clarkesworld does a lot if good work.

It all started on this day. Thank you for a wonderful twenty years.
Text in the center reads: 20 Years Oct. 2006 - Oct. 2026, clarkesworldmagazine.com

(right) Cover art for issue 241 by Marcel Deneuve is "Labyrinths of Azarax" and features a blue and white mechanical eye in a circular opening looking at a small, white, glowing humanoid figure standing on a large pipe in the tunnel. Many pipes line the walls, all heading out to the main room. Pipes are yellow and gray. Room beyond is blue.

(left) Cover art for issue 1 by Tomasz Pietrzyk is "The Town of the Towers" and features a surreal town of yellowy white distorted towers with reddish orange roofs that overhang the towers and rise to a point. Mishapen dark windows and doors are scattered about on the buildings. Orange sky gives the entire piece a warm tone.

Ok we always get excited when people mention our darlings and this weeks #IGMT is chocked full. Ode to the Half Broken gets a quick call out and I also recommend checking out the Arcana Imperii series. Renay is a font of knowledge and correct opinions. Go check it out.

Been doing a lot of reading and trying to build a better workflow. Maybe one of these days I'll actually be able to get my reviews written up as quickly as I'd like. I'm gonna go back to my book now.

well. two months before my four-year anniversary, my role at wizards has been made redundant, and I have been laid off. i have a lot of feelings i'll probably never put words to, except to say that i don't regret a single day and have so much love for anyone else affected and those who remain.

Now with alt text! :D
Mohamed, Premee. Wickhills. Tor. Sept. 2026. ISBN 9781250378415. 320p.

$29.99. FANTASY

Vycol Ferec believes he's working for the city of Wickhills, doing good and smooth-ing down the rough edges. However, he's really the secret police, and this mission is going to get a whole lot of people killed, including his own team—unless they betray him first. He's protecting a scientist who has discovered a way to destroy all the city walls, and everyone is out to capture that secret so they can do unto others first. Vycol Ferec is never certain whether he should keep run-ning or stop fighting because he's burning through his friends and his enemies, and it looks like no one is going to come out of this alive, possibly not even the city he loves. This gas-lamp urban fantasy com-bines an exciting adventure, a walk through dangerous, secret places, and one man's cri-sis. The pace is relentless, the characters are unreliable at every turn, and the stakes are high with every step. VERDICT Recommend Mohamed's (The First Thousand Trees) lat-est to lovers of gas-lamp fantasy, epic po-litical machinations, or hidden motives and anyone who has wondered what a fantasy version of Green City Wars by Adrian Tchai-kovsky would look like. I try to use December as a time to finish all the series. I pick a series or two that I can finish during the month and also try to pick up a couple middle books to make progress on series that I haven’t kept up with. I do not start new series at the end of the year though. Very important.

I really enjoyed The Protectorate series by Megan E Okeefe. It is a really tough choice, but usually anything with sentient space ships and dangerous Alien artifacts will draw me right in. Oh and food. I don't know why, but finding out what counts as comfort food in 300 years is great too.

I'm lost as to what I should be doing right now. The Dopamine says I should dive down a rabbit hole of new RPGs and games that I learned about at GenCon, but I also have books I need to read preview and the one I need to read for my book club. Can't say it's a bad problem to have though.
