Hi #portfolioday, I'm Sajan, looking to do more fantastical/sci-fi/otherworldly stuff. Have a strong design sense, so especially keen on covers/posters etc, but also happy to do interior work! You can contact me for work through here: www.sajanrai.co.uk/portfolio/

Being stuck in a call queue, with infuriatingly crap music, 30 second loops of a voice telling you to hold, and nearly as frequent inducements to use a website instead (I would do that if it would help) should be considered hostile architecture. It is very clearly designed to get you to hang up.

Hen's teeth rare dentist appointment missed because the police had closed the road and connecting dual carriageway. Can't wait to spend weeks with holes in to my jaw because there's no availability.

TERROR NEXUS One of my fave paintings from my recent work with And Tomorrow Games. Feels apt for many reasons. #art #artsky #scifi #nightmare #pain
Painting of a tormented, gigantic human head, emerging through a desolate landscape.

I don't update my website very often, because loads of work gets stuck in the unpublished pipeline, and also because I find it depressing to look at it all. However I now removed much old and added some new: #art #artsky #portfolio #hello lukeoram.com

The later covers are of course in-line with trends of the days, but to me those trends feel homogenous. It's like they are embarrassed to be scifi. This is one of the worst offenders:
A dull book cover for The Player of Games by Iain M Banks.

Something like this has been my main concern with the Greens. Their potential value to me (and others like me) is as a vehicle for an electoral strategy. This just seems like a naive own-goal, which is the opposite of Polanski's pitch to us. 😔

The scene where Ziller expresses his deeply-felt sense of futility (a composer in a world of god-like AI) only to be gently chided by said AI, and then meet a dying man still filled with wonder...is beautiful. End of Bladerunner type emotional defence of life. I am struck by this book's maturity.
An old copy of Iain M Banks' novel 'Look to windward' being held up by me.

No doubt both are created by the same capital demiurge. The kind that draws it's foul succour from the frustration and wasted effort of the hopeless and the benighted.

Quite a few years ago I decided that, even though it looks lame, I'm playing with my guitar a bit higher because it's better for my hands. If I'm going to keep playing live music into my 50s, kids will just have to cope with gramps rocking the Harrison neck-tie.

Forgive the random internet advice, I just know first-hand that playing position is one of the main culprits for this. Nylon string held properly will very likely help avoid a repeat.

Currently re-reading #IainMBanks SF novels. Sticking to the old school illustrated covers that don't look like supermarket thrillers. HMU if you are trying to shift any.

There's some fuss about the forthcoming Eggers Romeo & Juliet apparently being filmed in "olde English". I'm going to assume everyone means Shakespearian English (i.e. early Modern English) and not the language of the Saxons etc (i.e. Old English).

I found that the Moodys all suddenly became 'scholars' in the late 18th century, as the local towns began to develop education and as farming practice changed. You could see how the property was gradually divided up, left to overgrow, and became woodland.

We have a similar thing here and it's great. I found a random ruin in some woods nearby, known as 'Moodys Woods'. Using the historic layers I found that the area had once been home to a longstanding family of Farmers- the Moodys. Cross-reffing with electoral records tracked the history.

A shopping centre isn't quite the same as a mall, they tend to be in city centres, but it's a similar thing. I just happened to be in one I used to frequent, and decided to relive something. I won't go there again before it's demolished, so it's strange to intentionally have a last time.

I am in no way against using whatever means are available to make art. Having said that, I cannot help but think the incentivisation behind certain design practices that are predominantly reiterative has lead to an industry of visual reproduction.

It is 1996. I am reading Iain M. Bank's EXCESSION, and seeing for the first time a desirable vision of the future. It is 2026. I am reading Iain M. Bank's EXCESSION, and feeling that vision is more distant than ever.
