New paper on anticipatory cash transfers to herders during an extreme winter in Mongolia. ACTs have significant positive effects for poorer recipients, not so much for the rest of our sample. Personal learnings: Anticipatory action is promising. Targeting matters. More research is needed.

Our very own @lukasmogge.bsky.social just published a paper in @jeem-econ.bsky.social. The study titled "Perception and Protection" provides new evidence on how experiencing risk affects demand for index-based insurance in Mongolia. Check it out here: doi.org/10.1016/j.je...

“The portrayal of the Nazis as right-wing extremists is clearly false, considering that Ernst Röhm, leader of the SA, is flamboyantly gay! Does that sound like Hitler to you? I mean, apart from being actually led by Hitler”

It’s wild how fast people jump at any excuse to hate and harass women. Platforms know it—and it’s great for their business. If external researchers can map out how smear campaigns or tactics to boost unknown political candidates (like in Romania) work, why can’t platforms address them proactively?
