When I was at school, a long time ago, Religious Education was a timetabled subject in the lower years and an option to O Level. I don't remember being taught anything other than Christianity and wish I had got to know the basics of the other msin world religions.

The photo is not a Tufted Duck, not a pure one anywsy. It shows features of Ring-necked Duck.

A moulting flock now builds up on the outer Humber estuary between Hull and Spurn, been there about 40 years.

A nice start to the day - my 2nd ever White-point in the trap and my 2nd ever garden Great White Egret flew over.

When can we expect our hard copies delivered? I remember the target is first weekend of the month, but a long time since that was met.

This morning I was quite satisfied with my first Merveille du Jour of the year, but then I realised a 'pearl' was not one of thevusual ones, having a terminal white bar: Loxostege sticticalis (Mugwort Pearl) which has very few county records, maybe just four in Septemver 2022 #teammoth #VC55Moths

Does anyone else remember when we used to compare the shape of the head and beaks of Caspians to Slender-billed Gulls?

Classic Dunnock 'SMR' behaviour here this morning: two calling from atop the highest tree then spiralled up and headed off strongly south. Plus the first two Skylarks of the autumn over. #VC55Birds

I didn't put mine on but still caught a Vestal and a Large YU - absolutely definite they were not overlooked yesterday. Weird.

Must surely be the same one as photographed from a survey boat further east a few days ago, and could well be seen again.

Actually a bit more colour on the wall near thectrap - a rather pale Sallow.

I know what you mean by dodgy Dutch-type Caspians. Plenty of Germans too. Sadly all seem to be acceptable by most these days.

I skipped a day's lectures at Hull Uni to try for that Desert Wheatear in 1974, along with Chris Heard. Missed it but did meet DIMW for the first time.

Mine this morning is at least the third within a couple of miles in the last week, only a few miles from the Derbyshire border at Castle Donington.

I’ve reached the point - well actually, I reached it a while ago - where I’m militantly anti-AI. Fine - use it in bioscience labs and radiology where it might help analyse data more effectively. Use it sparingly for systems engineering. Everywhere else, it can fuck off.

A new record count of 18 Great White Egrets on my patch of Swithland Reservoir this morning. Who would have imagined that ten years ago ? All natural too, not like the plastic storks that are supposed to impress people #PWC2026

Much prefer the BOU vernaculars to all the Northerns, Europeans and so on which infortunately are being forced upon us in my current county, at least by some. A waste of time and space.

Do you have a rough breakdown of how the 800k records get to HOS? How many via eBird or BirdTrack, and how easy are those to assimilate?

Definitely. Incredibly demanding on electricity and water at the possible detriment to ordinary consumers, and enormous CO2 emissions. Do we really need it so much?

I fell asleep watching MOTD and woke up with the telly still on and showing BBC News but with an insert programme on southern Turkey showing the birds of the Goksu Delta and then Brown Fish Owl. Result - certainly better than Spurs. #birds
