The collector’s conundrum: I have a punched version of White Bear & Red Moon that I can play, but my copy of Dragon Pass is unpunched… should I punch it to play with the newer rules and colour board, or should I leave it and stick to its predecessor?

Last week KamCon started with a bang: a concert of by the Darkest of the Hillside Thickets, with local band Tayos opening for them. Too bad the acoustics were bad… I’ll have to try and catch both bands in other venues whenever possible!
The Thickets playing in their usual "Lovecraftian cultist" outfit, except for the drummer dressed as Jesus.

After looking at several options for a website featuring payments and subscriptions, I understand why everybody’s raving about Ghost despite it lacking a whole bunch of basic features: it’s the cheapest option, and it has 0% transaction fees.

It’s amazing to see the amount of time, resources, and energy game-devs pour into CRPGs to get even a fraction of the immersive, reactive worlds we achieve in TTRPGs with, like, a handful of dice and a few bullet points in a notebook…

KamCon last week-end isn’t just TTRPGs: there’s also a big chunk of board games, wargames, video games, cosplay, and other nerdy stuff. But this time there was also a pinball tournament! I didn’t enter, but I played the D&D pinball which is crazy, it has a branching storyline!
Pinball machines at KamCon: Avengers, Foo Fighters, and D&D. The D&D one off course has a dragon, but also a gelatinous cube, a kobold mine, and a bunch of fun things.

Before KamCon started last Friday, I went on a little hike above Kamloops with Francis, writer of “Horror in the Nunnery” (for Call of Cthulhu). We got some nice views of the town!

There was a problem with some PDFs missing from my scenario “The King’s Daughters” on DriveThruRPG. It should now be fixed, sorry about that, and thanks to everyone who reported it. Stupid of me to release something and then spend the next two days gaming at a convention…

Just learned about the efghij programming language, which, I guess, is “literally object oriented” in that programs are “written” by stacking everyday objects on top of each other. For example, this is a factorial function:
(excerpt from the linked Wikipedia article)

This example demonstrates the BelMandel (Bigness Exactly Like Multiplying All Naturals Deemed Equal or Less than) function (otherwise known as factorial). This demonstrates a single-parameter function declaration in which the parameter is identified by sauces.

In this example, the tray and the cutting board constitute code blocks. The oblong plate, however, has a clothes peg on it, which expresses a for loop. The fork is a local variable.

The fork variable is initialized to 1 within the for loop’s initial-value expression. The sauce with the rubber band indicates that the number of iterations is equal to the function’s argument. The stuff on the cutting board is the loop body. Using a stapler, the fork is multiplied by the sauce and the result assigned to the fork using a drinking glass. A hammer decrements the sauce, which demonstrates that the function’s parameter can be used as a local variable too.

Finally, the toilet roll indicates that the return value is the final value of the fork.

The park rangers at Lynn Canyon are desperately trying to prevent people from stupidly hurting themselves… every year the signs and fences seem to be slightly tweaked and adjusted.
"Spoiler Alert: Your viral jump ends in the hospital""Injured in Lynn Canyon? 100% not the vibe""Your friends might cheer. First responders won't."I think the "Cliff Jumping Danger Rating" and signs showing how many people died at a given spot are being retired, probably for being taken as a challenge by drunk teenagers...

Good fluffy boy for scale.

From the delightful “Old School FRP” blog, an ad from Lou Zocchi’s Gamescience announcing D10s numbered in increments of ten “to eliminate once and for all arguments over which die is read first for percentages”. I’m surprised this only appeared in 1990!

“Time Without Tide” looks nice but it somehow doesn’t feel to me like a Chaosium game, and I think the reason isn’t the system, but the fact that Chaosium always made “literary games”: based on mythology and history, fantasy novels, horror stories, etc. TWT isn’t any of that?
