Read my profile of new Lieutenant Gov. Rachel Hunt — Josh Stein's second-in-command who is determined to return normalcy to the office. And if her last name sounds familiar, that's because her dad served as N.C.'s governor for a record 16 years. For CPP: carolinapublicpress.org/69447/north-...

The final Helene damage and needs assessment was just published by the NC Office of State Budget and Management: www.osbm.nc.gov/hurricane-he... It lists an expected federal contribution of $25.9 billion, which means N.C. expects Gov. Roy Cooper’s federal funding request to be carried out in full.

Consider my latest story for your evening read: Residents of Mountain Island Lake claim Duke Energy has repeatedly mismanaged lake levels, causing major floods that destroyed and swept away multiple homes. bit.ly/41gS2ce

Did homes along lake have to flood? Residents and Duke Energy disagree.
Federal agency hasn't yet weighed in on whether Duke's timing of water releases from dams near Mountain Island Lake was managed properly.
