I really enjoyed having to think through the questions @lpcantlose.bsky.social posed as part of this interview. It was definitely part of my pivot to worrying about the big picture societal implications of this GenAI crap - and wonderful to cross digital paths with @coppolaemilio.com as well!

I've been on a bit of a vibe-coded beat lately, which is why I thought it was pertinent to ask some experts about the video game industry's future Thank you to both @coppolaemilio.com and @luked.bsky.social for lending their expertise to this one, and also for helping to end it on a hopeful note
While Dicken stated that we may have already found ourselves “in a world where ideas and execution are cheap,” how developers and publishers choose to “operate” their games and their businesses will be the “core differentiators” moving forward: “AI can clone a game, it can decompile an existing thing and repurpose it, but what it can’t do is find the fun of the next thing. That’s still a uniquely human endeavor.”

Likewise, although Coppola noted that some “might benefit” from the recent “advancements” of AI coding, he also stated that “coding is rarely the roadblock in making a successful game,” and that “good game design” will always endure: “Having good game design and basically ‘something that’s fun,’ it’s really difficult to do, no matter if you are the one coding or if it’s a robot doing it. So while some people might benefit from AI code, they will still need to solve the same issue that everybody else has to face: how to make a good game.”

Not saying this to disparage PR folks, quite the opposite. It's just that I'm not well known in the slightest, so lord knows how many emails Kaplan's peers are getting in their inboxes every day. Indie devs need better support, but it's just that there are *so* many of them to support atm

Pretty sure Jeff Kaplan doesn't email me, and I'm not one of his "peers," but my inbox often feels like a RuneScape market Except, instead of people shouting "SELLING RUNE SCIMMYS," it's 20 poor indie devs sending me "ICYMI: [INSERT INDIE TITLE HERE]" every day www.gamespot.com/articles/jef...

My job, primarily, is to inform. Sometimes–increasingly so, in fact–that means I have to inform about bad things. Uncomfortable things. Things we wish were not true. However, I can't lie in doing so. If a bad thing is bad, you deserve to know why and how it's bad.

Lewis Parker @lpcantlose.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
I feel like I made it pretty clear that, again, this is a *bad thing* At no point did I say, "This is cool and awesome." I did, however, say that some of the web browser ports seemed to run very well, because that's the truth. A *bad* truth, but still, the truth.

Lewis Parker @lpcantlose.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
I was just about to reply saying exactly this, so thank you. My article very much frames this as a *bad thing* that is so bad that we, unfortunately, can't ignore it.

hey mutuals, can any of you weigh in on whether or not it’s ok for me, a straight man, to buy and wear this T-shirt (it’s almost sold out so please let me know if this is acceptable urgently)

Lewis Parker @lpcantlose.bsky.social · 20/09/2026
We can't keep having this needless back-and-forth where you say you took it one way, and then I tell you it's clearly stated in another way “there might not be a solution” is not the conclusion. "there might not *currently* be a solution” is the conclusion.
010
Lewis Parker @lpcantlose.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Yes. The article is quite straightforwardly about the *current* options. Apologies for not pitching an idea for a specialised marketing agency, I guess. It’s almost as if it’s quite easy to take a random out of context quote from a piece to make someone look a moron.

Lewis Parker @lpcantlose.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Just to clarify, the question I posed was: “How are indie devs going to reach audiences when they have little to no advertising budget?” And the answer in your article is: “A good advertising agency for indie devs, which currently doesn’t exist.” …sounds like we’re agreeing?

Oh, Polygon. It makes me so upset whenever I witness these ghouls parading your corpse around. This site really is just ragebait content now. And the most depressing thing is, its writers are still immensely talented. They’re just being forced to waste their talents on pushing out this slop.

Everything Lex writes is pure gold. Far more damaging for 1001 Threads Of Mizan than it otherwise would have been if its director simply addressed its ties to MISK. Also a great example of a problem every journalist has faced with PR bullshit: why'd you even invite me if I can't ask any questions?

Absolutely. How many people would engaged with this article if it was free ahd had ads that 90% of people reading it would have an ad blocker for anyway. I really don’t know what the right answer is for independent sites in this day and age.

Like, no wonder people are pissed off at this. Without the argument that makes up the other 80% of it, this article is just "Vampire Survivors and Ball x Pit are SHIT and only MORONS like them" before the paywall cut off

Lewis Parker @lpcantlose.bsky.social · 20/08/2026
paywalls have done unquantifiable damage to video game journalism Without paying money to read the rest of it, this article is just five paragraphs of ragebait before it asks you to put in your credit card details... which is a shame because it's actually a decent article

Do I think this will make Sony reverse its decision? No Do I think this is a genius, well-organized boycott? No Do I think that many people will actually take part in the boycott? No But god forbid someone try to move the needle. At least they're trying, unlike you lot.

Hard-hitting and quintessentially British journalism on Kotaku this afternoon. Count Binface needs to answer for his crimes. Disgraceful stuff. And considering this happened under Andy Burnham's Labour government, I think he should resign as well.
