Not what I expected to see this evening! Great bird whatever its story...

Other than a couple of Yellow-browed Warblers on Lowestoft North Denes it's been a very quiet day. However, a walk around the net posts was livened up by two wonderful Red-veined Darters.

Jack Snipe at Kessingland (+ its hideout - it's in the top pic somewhere!). Would've been impossible to find without a thermal imager and I'd have walked straight past it!

This Curlew Sandpiper at Breydon Water was one of six seen this afternoon.

A Curlew Sandpiper was in a full-tilt pose on Breydon's South Shore this afternoon. When they strike this pose, it makes them much easier to pick out, even from a distance.

Sadly, no skua action off Lowestoft late afternoon. However, 15 fabulous Pale-bellied Brent Geese appeared at Ness Point. They were too close for me phone scope, but I'm sure there'll be some amazing pictures of these from others.

A Little Egret was perched on the groynes along Lowestoft North Beach this evening. 2 Arctic Skua went south having given a couple some Common Terns a bit of a hard time. The highlight though was adding Curlew Sandpiper to the house list when at least one went south with a flock of 30+ Dunlin.

A flock of 11 Grey Herons arrived at 07.00 over the sea at Lowestoft, before continuing south along the coast at Kessingland. Remarkably another flock of 26 arrived at 12.15!

The juv Red-footed Falcon is still present in Lowestoft, just north of Gull Wing Bridge, and is feeding from the fence near the dragonfly mural.

There are going to be lots of fab pics of the Lowestoft Red-footed Falcon but I reckon I nailed this one...

To whoever found the juv Red-footed Falcon in Lowestoft, a massive thank you! It's showing very well but is clearly tired. It's just south of the Gull Wing bridge. Wow!

A couple more of the Breydon Water Sabine's Gull before it flew off at 09.20. Initially it landed in a field before continuing towards the coast at 09.30.

Wryneck Gunton Warren in a clearing east of Dip Farm football pitch entrance. Also 4 Redstart, 4 Pied Flycatcher, 2 Willow Warbler, 2 Wheatear and a Whinchat in the area.

This lovely Green Woodpecker in Corton Churchyard was the closest I (knowingly) came to a Wryneck. Whilst watching it an obliging Pied Fly appeared, closely followed by a Redstart. Like most sites, migrants were arriving late on. We're keeping our fingers crossed they hang around to be enjoyed 🤞🏽

I was really pleased to see the White-rumped Sandpiper at Benacre Broad, thanks to @cach22.bsky.social Whilst it was never close the light and lack of shimmer allowed reasonable views. Plus it was great to 'get my eye in,' with the species again.

There have been several Caspian Gulls along Lowestoft North Beach this week. This one was channelling its inner Daniel LaRusso 🥋

The waders on Breydon Water can mega distant at times but can also be unbelievably close like this fabulous Black-tailed Godwit. Stunning.

As always, it was a privilege to spend time at Breydon with Peter Allard @yarmouthbirder.bsky.social, who has been birding there since 1957 and is a treasure trove of knowledge/stories. His effervescent enthusiasm for Breydon after so long is inspiring. One of three Common Sandpipers from y'day.

1.8.2026 An early start sadly failed to produce @jameslowenwild.bsky.social Marsh Sandpiper. However, as always there were 100s of birds to sift through. Breydon Water is a special place, hard to bird but a special. Highlights: Pec Sand, present for its 8th day, Grey Plover and 11 Ringed Plover.

Quick visit to Burgh Castle/Breydon last night (although Erin says there's no such thing as a 'quick' visit there 🤣) where 5 Spoonbill, 100s of Med Gulls and a beautiful sunset were the highlights.

@markgolley.bsky.social I've been finding your recent limosa posts very useful, thanks. Over the years I think I've been overlooking them on Breydon so have been paying them more attention recently. These grey birds seem to fit the bill but would appreciate your thoughts if you have time.
Photographed by Andrew Easton. This ringed bird was present last year and was thought to be limosa then.

Burgh Castle: 5 Spoonbill, 413 Blk-tailed Godwit, 3 Knot, 198 Avocet and Golden Plover. Interestingly, I've had 4 colour-ringed godwits on each of my last few visits here but haven't seen the same one twice. Yet, numbers continue to build. Makes me wonder how many birds actually use the site.

Who else thought they were going to refind the Hudsonian Godwit today? I tried and failed at Burgh Castle where there were 127 Black-tailed Godwits. The light was less than ideal but nothing unusual stood out. Next time! 🤞🏽
