Nick Lowe @lowesmore.bsky.social · 02/10/2026My heritage is mostly Irish, Scottish and German. But I'm white and 'well spoken' so nobody has ever questioned my Englishness. Wonder why that can possibly be? 000
Nick Lowe @lowesmore.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Quite a few people live in other places which are not the USA. That bubble is quite considerable in size. I have heard the song in question, once, (I liked it) but the reach of what is currently streaming at home for you, might not have quite the reach you assume. 030

Nick Lowe @lowesmore.bsky.social · 15/09/2026Yeah, I'm defenitely a dick for training my dog really well. Reaching for the block any second. 000
Nick Lowe @lowesmore.bsky.social · 15/09/2026Depemds on the dog and the owner. Mine is well trained and I am able to keep him under close control with voice commands. If an owner cannot keep a dog under control on a shared path, I quite agree. 100
Nick Lowe @lowesmore.bsky.social · 15/09/2026Ringing a warning bell and slowing down if necessary at all times by all cyclists would make the siuation a lot better, if not perfect. 010
Nick Lowe @lowesmore.bsky.social · 15/09/2026I know it is terrible and I would very much like there to be much better infrastrucure. Clearly we are both courteous, the problem is a lot of cyclists are not in a space where pedestrians have priority. 120
Nick Lowe @lowesmore.bsky.social · 15/09/2026If I see a cyclist coming towards me I call my dog to a sit by the path and move to one side so the cyclist does not have to slow down at all. I don't think it should be too much to ask for similar courtesy from cyclists approaching from behind. 110
Nick Lowe @lowesmore.bsky.social · 15/09/2026But I have issues when I am walking a quiet path with my dog and some twat comes screaming past me within touching distance & with no warning at all, which is a regular occurance. 110
Nick Lowe @lowesmore.bsky.social · 15/09/2026I quite agree that out of control dogs (a well trained dog does not need to be on a lead to under close control) people wearing headphones and being unable to hear (I also see cyclists wearing them which astonishes me), walking abreast the path in large groups is problematic. 110
Nick Lowe @lowesmore.bsky.social · 15/09/2026No-one is suggesting cyclists should not be allowed to cycle. What we are suggesting is that the many cyclists who cycle dangerously on shared paths (where pedestrians have priority) might like to heed normal guidance and ring a bell when approaching from behind and slow down. 110
Nick Lowe @lowesmore.bsky.social · 15/09/2026Either way, always ring a bell and slow down. You've then done everything you can. The point is many don't and it is dangerous. 130
Nick Lowe @lowesmore.bsky.social · 15/09/2026I need a few seconds to stop, clock cyclist and call my dog to a sit. A good bell can be heard from a lot further than 50m, and if some twat is giving you grief for using a bell then they fall into the category of 'pedestrian idiot'.twat.is 140
Nick Lowe @lowesmore.bsky.social · 15/09/2026Ring a bell. If they don't react slow right down and pass safely. It is not rocket science. If you already do that, great, but many don't and it is dangerous. 010
Nick Lowe @lowesmore.bsky.social · 15/09/2026You must have astonishing eyesight to be able spot a pair of Airpods from 50 metres. 100
Nick Lowe @lowesmore.bsky.social · 14/09/2026Drives me mad. If I see a cyclist coming or one does ring a bell I call my dog to a sit so they can safely pass without slowing down. To be fair most thank me, it's the twats who come screaming up from behind with no warning and seem to think I should just 'know' they are there. 3100
Nick Lowe @lowesmore.bsky.social · 14/09/2026I regularly walk a shared path with my dog. Behaviour of 50% of cyclists on it is terrible. Appreciate the path is a safe route for them as no cars but no excuse to run into / near miss with people out walking. 1110

Nick Lowe @lowesmore.bsky.social · 24/08/2026If you go back to my original point you might notice I was originally talking about arable farming which is in big trouble. Your whataboutery led us here. You are incredibly uninformed. Will block shortly. 000
Nick Lowe @lowesmore.bsky.social · 24/08/2026You raised beef, not me. In UK we have had a decade long contraction in cattle and sheep numbers anyway. Both of which are reared on rainfed grasslands regardless. At some point you might grasp the massive difference in use of green and blue water, but I won't hold my breath. Goodbye. 100
Nick Lowe @lowesmore.bsky.social · 24/08/2026Actually laughing now. In the UK our cattle are on wetlands best suited for livestock farming. There is a massive difference between natural, grass fed feeding and diverting huge amounts of bluewater to irrigate intensive feed crops. 100
Nick Lowe @lowesmore.bsky.social · 24/08/2026The OP and I are both in the UK, where our beef farming uses approx 30 times less blue water than US farms. Around 80% of water usage for cattle here is natural rainwater on the grass and soil. The main issue we have is crap pipe maintenance by privatised water - a long term fix. In the meantime.... 100
Nick Lowe @lowesmore.bsky.social · 24/08/2026Reducing water to agriculture where we are currently losing entire crops due to extreme heat and lack of water is an excellent plan. I have already said there are many issues, AI is just one of them, but the OP was about AI. Anyway, this is going around in circles. I bid you a good day. 100
Nick Lowe @lowesmore.bsky.social · 24/08/2026Problem is most people will not make the negligble change you cite. Water is a 'now' issue and there are many other problems that need fixing, but all are long term. Diverting water to AI whilst food supply dwindles is, in my opinion, somewhat shortsighted. 100
Nick Lowe @lowesmore.bsky.social · 24/08/2026Great. So not a denial there is an issue, just some ways to mitigate it in the future. Casual reminder that we are not all in the US, and farming yields across Europe are massively down right now. 100

It is going to cradh massively at some point, realise it is here to stay but some of the stuff happening with lending between companies is ponzi like. 2 - the massive water in take whilst crops boil in the ground and planning permission for farmers to build resevoirs drags is a problem. 180
