Sorry that happened to you. IMHO, if you are going with a windows laptop, Lenovo is a great choice. Pretty rugged and durable. Dell Latitudes are also worth a look. Pay attention to the built in port options (what all can you plug into it?) and battery size vs weight.

Happy to help. No insinuation of being cheap intended, and I agree the fees should be transparent and not hidden. I think having the back story of why they are in there in this case is helpful. Most of the restaurants I visit that used to auto-add the gratuity have stopped doing so.

Most importantly, I would not adjust or deduct any gratuity from a bill just because it has a fee like this. Those workers greatly depend on those tips and should not be shorted. All that to say, there is a reason and history for those fees here. Don't know about Seattle but that's the story here.

Locally. They are NOT absorbed by the business owners. They have to pay them to the city. And the fees are common on restaurant bills here. Although the programs need some updating, they are valuable and I'm more than happy to pay the fees, but customers do have a right to have them removed. And 3/

Many restaurants only hire PT with no health plan, so this was a way to get them some coverage. Then after the ACA passed, a lot of folks moved to state coverage plans via the exchanges. But the employers still had to pay in. There's been a lot of recent reporting about these fees and funds here 2/

Context: in 2006, SF passed the "healthy SF" law which required employers to offer their workers health care, or pay into a public option. That is the origin of the fees. For a while, it really worked. Many people I know in the service industry got access to see a doctor that otherwise wouldn't. 1/

THIS! I've mentioned this a few times in the past. I'm often baffled at how a location or home base is easily forgotten or only mentioned deep in "the fine print" in ad copy. As someone who travels all the time, I see this much more than you might think, and I'm way more diligent than most.
