I'm meditative in the small radius of my chair. The uninvited air in the room carries a wintery bite. Amber flames dance atop their wicks. They don't do much to raise the temp, but they light the edges of dark. In my lap, a fur-bound heartbeat provides the real heat—my tiny dog, curled into a ball.
