St Mary, Whitby, North Yorkshire. The setting is memorable, high on a bluff looking out over the sea, above the pretty town shoehorned in on both sides of the estuary of the River Esk. The building huddles the cliff top, as if hunkered down against the gales, as wide as it is long.
