New series on my channel: Big Ideas in I-O Psychology. First up is Affective Events Theory (Weiss & Cropanzano, 1996, Research in Organizational Behavior). Feelings at work come mainly from events, they rise and fall over time, and job satisfaction is not the same thing as affect.

We obsess over training AI. But what about how AI trains us? Every interaction with technology shapes our habits, attention, and behaviors - often in ways we don't notice until it's too late. The conversation typically ends with preventing bias and harm. But that's only half the equation.

Most of my papers get read by a few people (thanks, mom and students! 😆). Could a 3-minute video reach more? I used AI to turn our 2016 JPSP paper, CAPTION-ing the Situation, into an explainer: 10,325 everyday adjectives → 7 dimensions of situations. Would a video get you to read the paper?

A recent conversation reminded me that new PhD students often feel as though they need to prove how smart they are. A student mentioned that a seminar can feel like a battleground - everyone competing to make the smartest comment or get the answer right.
