Bumped into someone I taught in Year 9 through to her history A-level onto Durham. Now working in advertising. This happens more and more the longer you’re in teaching and is such a good advert for staying in schools. It’s so special.

In 2015, I decided to invest time in learning what the schools with the best exam outcomes do. It was probably the most important decision I made in my career. These schools have a lot more in common than they do differences & many of these things can be adopted straight away in any context.

At Reach Academy Hanworth Park, pupils in Y7 read the same book at home each half term as part of our reading programme. Our pupils love discussing characters/plot/predictions with their peers in our weekly English Morning Meets. Short thread on how we do this. 🧵

I run netball club every Friday & it’s so lovely. We laugh hysterically at our silly warm up, all support each other during the game, shout outs after, clear up without me asking, every child says thank you walking out. Investing in culture makes every aspect of teaching better.
