Looking along a footbridge that is made out of circular steel girders. The bridge floor is flat concrete, but the sides and the roof are made of a lattice of girders. Along the sides there are also yellow-painted handrails and a glass side. There is a strong feeling of geometric perspective about the image.

Short description: street art of two children blowing bubbles

Longer description We are looking at a wall made of light sand coloured brick. Painted on the wall is a large piece of street art / graffiti, it is about 2-3 metres high and 6 or 7 metres wide. It portrays two blonde, white, young girls who are happily blowing bubbles through a small soap-bubble maker. The overall feeling generated by the scene (for me, at least) is one of joyfulness and happy innocence.

Short description: a moorland scene with sheep and dry stone walls

Longer description: the image looks out over English moorland. In the foreground is a field of tough grass, with a few white sheep wandering around eating it. Then in the middle distance there are some dry stone walls and some long-ruined structures, possibly shepherd's huts or similar. There is also a very dead tree, its branches sticking up and out at odd angles. And then in the far distance looms more moorland, heading up a steep hill. We cannot see any sky at the top of the hill as the moorland fills the frame.

We are back from our week in Dorset (just two of us, not five, and we didn't go mad) which was as scenic as expected.
Brief description: The classic view of the ruins of Corfe Castle.

Longer description: The remains of a medieval stone castle sit on top of an almost hemispherical grassy hill. The ruins feature several tall towers and crumbling walls. Green trees fill the foreground, while a bright blue sky with scattered white clouds stretches behind the ruins.Short description: Durdle Door and its beach.

Longer description: this picture has been photographed from a cliff looking down and out across the sea, which stretches all the way to the horizon. However the main focus of the image is Durdle Door, a natural rock formation creating a striking and large arch out in the sea. The rock is quite pale (I believe its mostly chalk, in fact) but has patches of greenish-brown vegetation on it.

The sea is very calm with minimal waves. In the foreground there is a sandy beach with people on it.Short description: a chalk cliff headland.

Longer description: in the middle distance a tall but thin chalk headland just out into a bright blue sea. There are more chalk cliffs visible in the foreground, forming a thin ridge that seems to lead out to the main one which is the picture's focus. Although the main vertical cliff-face is pure white chalk, there is green/brown vegetation on the more horizontal surfaces.

In the far distance a small sailing yacht can be seen on the sea.Short description: an old stone mansion sits in immaculately kept grounds.

Longer description: This is Athelhampton House, a mostly Tudor-era mansion in the countryside. It is built from a light coloured stone and this view shows a large house with many windows and a tiled roof. Leading up the house is a gravel path through a well-kept grass lawn.

A view across the sea to white cliffs.

Longer description: This is a view across a blue-green stretch to sea looking towards some chalk cliffs. The cliffs are mostly a chalky white colour (as you'd expect) but also have some green moss growing on them, and take on a more creamy colour at their base where they meet the sea.

In the centre of the image some of the chalk cliff-face has been eroded away to create a sea cave.

The cliffs continue for some way into the distance, where at the very edge of the frame it's possible to make out some rock formations.

The sea itself is very calm with few waves, and the sky is a light blue colour with few clouds.

Crossing the Mersey Gateway Bridge earlier, Mrs Losttourist snapped this through the front windscreen of the car and I love how moody it looks.
An almost empty road stretches into the distance, with a shiny wet surface. Further away the silvery steel cables of a suspension bridge appear to merge into one, creating a bright triangle pointing up to the sky. Talking of the sky, it is covered in clouds, although a brighter patch indicates where the sun might be.

Despite being a standard colour photo, about the only visible colours are shades of grey, white, and a very muted steely blue.
