I belatedly realize that BENEVOLENT is another ensemble play about young women: INDIAN PRINCESSES, CAMPING, GIRL INTERRUPTED, DAD DON'T READ THIS, GIRLS: CHANCE: MUSIC. All focused on the inner lives of and the social constraints surrounding girls and women--shouldn't be refreshing in 2026, but is.

This is exactly my experience in a different domain. When I test it on something where I have a reasonable amount of expertise on the topic or desired outcome, I can see where it falls short and then it justifies its failures. If I didn’t know anything, I’d be impressed or believe it.
