I say again this is the best relaunch of the Legion of Super-heroes concept for the modern era I've seen. This is easy for new readers to get into while experienced readers like me can go along with it too & also have "hey look at that" moments that don't come at the expense of new readers.

Historically I've never been interested in the Doom Patrol. Actually, I don't like the Doom Patrol. But this new DC Next Level series continues to impress issue after issue. I'm instantly interested in Robot Man & Elasti-Girl and worried about Negative Man. Brilliant art, color, & characterizations.

We knew this new "cousin" that appeared in Peter Parker's life would be something, but now that the other shoe has dropped & the character's true intentions and standing are revealed, I'm kind of into it. I don't want it pending for years, but this is one of Spider-man's most difficult challenges.

All of my devices died last night. My laptop charger broke and my phone wasn’t plugged in all the way. It’s shocking I didn’t oversleep. I read a lot more really good comics and will try to share that today though. I do need to invest in an actual clock and not depend solely on my phone.

We love @urbanbarbarian.bsky.social covers but when he has interior art AND story for us, we have to show up. Wolverine Paradise is beautiful to behold. Normally I hear Cal Dodd when I read Wolverine but here it’s Hugh Jackman for some reason. Buy with confidence, even if you don’t like Wolverine!

Not only does the #Clayface Special reprint the original Matt Hagan the shapechanger story from Detective Comics 298, it ALSO reprints the wonderful adaptation of that story (from I can’t remember where) by Mike Mignola with Kevin Nowlan inks. For ONE DOLLAR! Every Batman fan must have this!

Prima Apparata is excellent and I know it is getting overlooked. More Ignition titles get noticed all the time & this one deserves it. Especially, if you appreciate the concept of Evangelion. Those molecules, well atoms really, are in this. The Black Swan of it I can't speak to but maybe you can.

Karman Blade is nothing short of overwhelming to me. This is in a class by itself. The story is there and Van Poelgeest makes it easy enough to follow, but the Bertram art with the Hollingsworth colors? If you've seen, then you know. If not pick up issues 1-2 and spend time specific with them.

Another one perfect for Halloween season. Hammerhead sees the lone survivor of a maniac slasher or I guess smasher attack barely surviving later in life who is picked up by authorities(?) & placed among others who are then placed back into a familiar situation. Great presentation!

So there really is a chance someone from Community could be in Doomsday then!

12 Foot Skeleton is the most on message Halloween Spirit comic I've read this season. You're following two families, learning who they are, what they deal with in their lives, then a yard decoration starts meting out final justice. Very much like a horror movie. Pick it up & preorder the rest!

The Accessories #3 is the best issue so far! This issue gets into the story of Dr Jekyll and a new take on his other half. This is only four issues with each focusing on a different accessory character leading back to a common scene and that is not enough. Plus, I learned a new word here!

My Jinxworld pal Simon went to the NYCC Community panel which got me watching the show again. I missed it when it was new, but bot into it later. What a special show. AND I noticed in the rerelease the Russo Bros who directed episodes had Ken Jeong & Yvette Brown in Endgame! Who will be in Doomsday?

For no good reason I am oddly protective of Archie characters. Archie vs Terminator is weird because its an Archie comic in structure, tone, etc. Until it isn't then it is again? This could be genius! John Connor is the mysterious new kid who Archie doesn't like & a Terminator is asking questions.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like that in a Marvel comic before. It kind of broke the macabre tone for what I guess would be considered “fan service” & I wonder if each issue will have a moment like that to balance the graphic horror.

Wow, the volume of unsent emails that I started and never sent sitting in drafts is at this point staggering. Some go back years. Definitely some missed opportunities in there as the window has passed. There's so many people I just haven't talked to in forever and I need to fix that.

Thank you my friend! When I went to my first ComicsPro you made it a point to approach me & chat & hang out. I’ve never forgotten that. Comic shop folks can be introverted & Human do tend to stick to familiar cliques, but you made me feel welcome. Like I was indeed supposed to be there too :)

I think all of these take really bold swings, really looking at the source material concept without bring precious about any of the finished, established ideas we know. I think that's what was required for Midnight to succeed as a project.

Absolute Superman 24 was a ray of brightness in the challenging Absolute DCU. A real sense of Superman getting it together and handling situations, now with help. Usually when our Absolute heroes catch anything resembling a win, they get evened out pretty hard and pay a hefty price. So we'll see...

Awesome turn out for the Midnight release of the Marvel Midnight titles! Everyone picked up each series, but Spider-man’s variants went the fastest! Anyone who said they would read them tonight I wished them luck sleeping. Most also said “see you tomorrow!” Thanks for joining us!

The "I wonder if that"ll be part of this series" moment that M.A.S.K. fans have wondered about is upon us in issue 5! If you know, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. And if you don't know, you'll still have a good item with it.

See if it passes the test as a first issue by itself and also as the first issue of a potentially wide open and long running series.

Lord Jermaine Retail @lordretail.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
All of the Midnight 1s have a What If vibe and that is not a problem. They probably should since What If by name & intent casts a heavy shadow at Marvel. I need to see more on Fantastic Four, want to see more on X-men. Spider-man immediately sets its self apart in body horror/ gore. So far anyways.

Lord Jermaine Retail @lordretail.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
Midnight X-men was quite intriguing. A simple surface subject, but immediately complex in implications. There's more going on than Vampires, Vampires who are also Mutants, & Humans in the middle, but that is hook enough. So many places this can go past & present. Ribic-esque art seals the deal!

Lord Jermaine Retail @lordretail.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
Midnight Spider-man just might be too much for me. Despite loving Spider-man, I'm not a fan of actual spiders. This one does a LOT with actual spiders. Scientronc has a heavy manga stamp which places this in the manga horror lane which is likely intentional. Too effective for me, perfect for others!

Midnight Fantastic Four. Wildly different set up & characterizations, but the "what is the Fantastic Four story" molecules are here. Walker is vastly underrated. I think this is what the whole Midnight project has to be. How long can this specific presentation run? I'm not certain, but hooks are in.

I’m the same. Coffee is a utility for me not a treat. If I haven’t had enough sleep and a lot ahead to do then it’s a coffee day. But then the morning coffee keeps me awake at night, so then the next day is a coffee day…

Just "locked picture" on ABSOLUTE WONDER WOMAN #25 and I can't believe we're already two years deep on these incredible books. I also can't believe how hard we're about to step on the gas, even though we're two years deep. These anniversary issues are freakin' major, y'all.
ABSOLUTE WONDER WOMAN #25 gatefold cover, featuring Wonder Woman fighting Absolute Cheetah against a montage of every character to appear in the series so far, drawn by Hayden Sherman and colored by Jordie Bellaire

Shift is in the Three Worlds/Three Moons line like Foundations. It serves as a prequel, or you can let this be your first intro. I knew this would be in a class by itself so I read it last. Quite the visual spectacle from Del Mundo, but Hickman's engaging characterization is what locks you in.
