Watched Le Cercle Rouge (1970), dir. Jean-Pierre Melville. Solid, but not life changing.

I didn't like Obsession. Audition is one of the greatest movies ever made and is STILL misunderstood and under appreciated 30 years later. So much so, they have to riff on it and dumb it down for gen audiences.

Watched Death by Hanging (Ōshima, 1968). Really strong. Much funnier than I expected.

Also watched Demon Pond/夜叉ヶ池 (1979). My second Shinoda. Really liked it! Thought it looked great.

Wrote my Ex a letter back in October (long story). Over the weekend, she texted me to say she wants to respond, but that "it'll take some time". It's already been 7 months bro!!!

And finally, the best thing I watched last week was The Taste of Tea (Katsuhito Ishii, 2004). Loved it! Obviously more than a bit silly and surreal, but surprisingly sweet and emotional as well. Sublime. 5 Stars

I also watched Koji Wakamatsu's epic United Red Army (2007). What can you even say about mortgaging (and then destroying) your own home to make a 3 hour film about leftists having the worst vibes in the world? Oh and you got Jim O'Rourke to do the music. 3.5-4/5 stars

I would like to thank Christopher Nolan, for immediately going back to making very questionable movies again. It was looking very bad for my agenda for a moment.

I also finally watched the classic Sansho the Bailiff (Mizoguchi, 1954). Great as expected. 4.5/5 stars 🥲

Be honest--were you aware of the Black Sabbath / Barry White split single, AKA "White Sabbath"? Because I was not.

I also watched Pastoral: To Die in the Country (1974). It was wonderful! If I was smarter, I'd gather my thoughts and write something about it, but I'm actually very dumb. Highly recommended. Gorgeous

Watched Mickey & Nicky (1976), a fun movie about hanging out with your bro. Craziest part of the whole movie was them shooting cigs, milk and beer in a dumpy diner. 4 stars

just to be clear, everyone, when 8 pm EDT comes and goes, regardless of what does or does not happen, the president still threatened genocide and war crimes and we should still impeach, arrest, and try him

Watched Onibaba (Shindō, 1964) over the weekend. Kind of just alright, idk about this one. I'd rather watch Kwaidan & Ugetsu & Kuroneko. But it looks great!
