A warm, realistic illustration of a Jewish rabbi and Muslim imam standing together in prayer at the 9/11 Memorial in New York City. The rabbi wears a kippah and prayer shawl; the imam wears a white kufi and dark embroidered robe. White flowers and a handwritten note reading “Many Peoples, One City, A Brighter Tomorrow” rest beside them. One World Trade Center rises in the background beneath a golden sunset. Text across the sky offers a blessing for New York, emphasizing compassion, human dignity, peace, and “salaam and shalom.” Banners and smaller inscriptions reinforce themes of kindness, justice, belonging, remembrance, healing, shared humanity, and building a more compassionate future.

A recent article by Matthew Vines seems to normalize evangelical culture, while stereotyping and ostracizing people who don't conform to that culture's sins. But real Christians and queers agree: Systemic sin must not be normalized. Through dissent and wholesome rebellion, we can all do better.

This is what Black American prosperity looked like in Tulsa, 1921 — before the community was destroyed in a massacre waged by a well-organized mob of white Oklahomans.
The image depicts a bustling, dignified scene on Greenwood Avenue in Tulsa, Oklahoma, circa 1921, before the massacre.

In the foreground, a two‑story brick building labeled Williams Confectionery anchors the left side. Its striped awning shades the sidewalk, where a man in a white apron stands at the entrance and customers sit inside at a counter. Signs advertise Soda, Lunch, and Cigars.

Next door, storefronts for New State Realty Co., Farland Cleaners, and the Greenwood Jazz Parlor line the street. The sidewalks are crowded with well‑dressed Black men and women—men in suits and hats, women in long dresses and cloche hats—talking, shopping, and greeting one another.

Early automobiles are parked along the curb, their polished bodies gleaming in the sunlight. Utility poles and streetlights stretch down the avenue, framing a row of prosperous businesses that extend into the distance.

Across the bottom of the image, white serif text on a black strip reads:

“This is what free enterprise looked like. Tulsa, 1921. Until it was burned down by white racism.”

The overall tone is respectful and historical, evoking pride in the community’s achievement and sorrow for its destruction.

Long ago, many churches stood publicly against the buying and selling of human beings. Abolitionists preached that every person bore inherent dignity and value. How closely does the modern pro-life movement resemble the abolitionists' moral courage, sacrifice, and concern for vulnerable people?
Long before modern political movements, many pastors, churches, and revival leaders stood publicly against the buying and selling of human beings. From pulpits across America, abolitionists preached that every person bore inherent dignity and value.
This image reflects that forgotten history: faith communities speaking against injustice even when it was unpopular, costly, or divisive.
It also raises an important question for today: how closely does the modern conservative or pro-life movement resemble the moral courage, sacrifice, and concern for vulnerable people shown by abolitionists? The abolition movement challenged systems of exploitation directly and often placed human dignity above politics, comfort, and party loyalty.
Whether people agree or disagree, history reminds us that moral movements are judged not only by what they oppose, but also by how they defend the humanity of our neighbors.

During World War II, the 442nd Regimental Combat Team became one of the most highly decorated units in American military history for its size and length of service. Meanwhile, many of their families were living in American wartime internment camps.
A vintage-style patriotic image shows a group of Japanese-American U.S. Army soldiers from World War II resting together in a rugged mountain landscape. The soldiers wear combat uniforms and helmets, and one soldier holds an American flag in the background. Their expressions are calm and determined. Large overlay text reads: “Their families were in American internment camps. They volunteered anyway. Most decorated unit in U.S. history.” The image has a nostalgic, documentary-style tone honoring the service and sacrifice of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team.

A couple of weeks ago, when it was clear that Spirit Airlines’ future was in doubt, Donald Trump did what he too often does: He tried to avoid blame for a looming setback by shifting responsibility to one of his Democratic predecessors.

“So, Spirit is an airline that’s had some trouble,” the Republican president said at a White House event. “They were going to merge with People Express, or one of them, a number of years ago, and Barack Hussein Obama decided it was a bad idea. How did that work out?”

Even by Trump standards, this was a mess, for the simplest of reasons: People Express ceased operations in 1987, when Obama was still a community organizer in Chicago, and it never tried to merge with Spirit.
