jim🥣 @longbhriste.bsky.social · 05/08/2025i think it's been eating the crayfish too - i found a few dead crayfish in the water where it looked like their shell had been pulled up and their backs eaten but the rest left behind. i imagine a mink wouldn't leave so much behind and the heron always leaves the shells along the top of the bank 030
jim🥣 @longbhriste.bsky.social · 05/08/2025any info i'm finding online says that bank voles have colonised the south/southwest of ireland and i'm not sure how outdated that is but i don't know if it's of any specific note that we have them this far up in the midlands. there's been signs of them for years i've just only now actually seen one 130
jim🥣 @longbhriste.bsky.social · 05/08/2025i also saw a BANK VOLE!!! i think. im finding conflicting information on whether water voles exist in ireland or not but bank voles definitely seem to.. never seen one before but it shot up past me through the water so fast & disappeared into the bank. too small and agile in the water to be a rat 010
jim🥣 @longbhriste.bsky.social · 05/08/2025came across so many white clawed crayfish in this part of the river :] they've always been there but i've never seen so many at once 120
jim🥣 @longbhriste.bsky.social · 02/08/2025i went for a walk down the fields this evening and in a pine nest some ways from the house there was a young buzzard calling out and gliding around testing its wings.... :') 000

It shows the potential to restore marine ecosystems if we play our part by establishing real marine protected areas and stopping destructive fishing. www.irishexaminer.com/lifestyle/ou...irishexaminer.comSturgeon sighting — the first here in decadesA 180cm sturgeon was caught and released off the coast of Kerry this summer... they are considered extinct in Irish waters so this is significant 0254
