It’s the 90th anniversary of the Battle of Cable Street today (4 Oct 1936). If you’ve not been to the mural, it’s well worth a visit. The East End said “¡No Pasarán!” to the f*scists. @claptoncfc.co.uk also have a new mural to mark the battle. 📍Cable Street, London E1 🚆Stepney DLR/Tube

I really enjoyed #OhSanLorenzo. Will Dalton tells how he fell in love with the Boedo club and became a cuervo and at the same time provides a fascinating insight into Argentine terrace culture.

Some down time on holiday enabled me to read Outsiders by Rodrigo Barneschi rneschi. It's a fascinating account of his life following Palmeiras all over the continent. Travelling away fans in the UK have it easy in comparison

@byekitty.bsky.social I went to watch Hibs play in Skopje on Thursday night. Disappointingly the Philip II stadium has been renamed to honour Toše Proeski instead

A bit niche, but a fascinating insight into complex history of Olimpija Ljubljana and the impact of the break-up of Yugoslavia. I'd been aware in Olimpija (they played Hibs in the '68 Fairs Cup) but hadn't considered the impact of losing out on games against Crvena Zvezda, Partizan, Hajduk & Dinamo

Keeping the fitba accessible in East London. Of course, for those who are able to, paying more than a fiver for a game will help the club to do more good work.

I agree with most of what @rorysmith.bsky.social says today in @theobserveruk.bsky.social. His point about the noise of World Cup is really well observed. Over the last 2 World Cups especially (I've been to 9) it's clear that event-goers now outnumber real football fans share.google/Pe2L44bEkOH8...

When I heard about the death of Antonio Rattin at the weekend, I just knew that @jonawils.bsky.social would write a piece about him. It's definitely worth a read, especially if all you know about Rattin is about his sending off at Wembley in 1966 open.substack.com/pub/jonawils...

The Argentina captain came to be defined by his sending off in the World Cup in 1966 but he was a much better player and more complex character than the bogeyman image allows

It isn't that France haven't turned up. It's that Spain basically rendered them irrelevant. Best performance of the tournament so far, by a distance. Just imposed their game on them. Deschamps also got it wrong, too. They knew two on three in midfield was a risk.

@footballcliches.bsky.social. Clarifying the duration of Scottish half-times. A 10min break was the norm everywhere until 1995 when IFAB under pressure from broadcasters extended it to 15min max for commercial reasons. With less commercial pressures, the Scots were less strict about adhering to it
