Fast, thrilling, tense: these are three words of many that can be used to describe the thrill of racing on RACEFAX. Our new photo finish technology brings the racing even closer to the line. Hope you can handle the tension! #indiegames #solodev #gamedev

Our resident teller of fortunes Patricia has recently branched out to new fields, namely our lottery! Here’s hoping she can help line your pockets with coins!* *Calls to the other side are charged at standard network rate. #gamedev #solodev #indiegames

Just had a pal suggest that all my game achievements need to be named after 80s/90s song titles and YES YES YES

The Races is over on Instagram now at @theraces.live, and I'll be posting all the stuff that goes on there to here so no-one misses out. Here's also some lovely game footage so this post has more reason than just a simple plug to another place to see it. #solodev #gamedev #indiegames #ceefax

Some little sneak peeks at The Races, the play-with-your-mates silly party game I've been chugging along with for the last year or so. Now with full Ceefax inspired redesign! #gamedev #indiedev #solodev #jackbox

Took three months off my silly Ceefax horse racing game to work on a redesign and take a break, started to get it all working this week again. I think this is it. #theraces #gamedev

Became a 6 Music Dad this week (sans children), having zero freelance work until next week has been lush to just have a bit of radio on in the background. Also worked out how to do Alexa on Fire TV on Apple Music so that's also been good.

Took a bit of time off making The Races to have a little reset and to not burn myself out of the project, and returning to it today. Final set of updates and game tweaks before we move to getting Steam ready for both Mac and Windows. #gamedev #TheRaces

A The Races story: Bought a horse with a loan, trained it, entered it into the next race (4/1 odds!), bribed the two fav jockeys to throw the race… ...my horse fell, theirs didn’t, I got caught for bribery TWICE, and now I have 25 coins left and can’t pay my loan. WELCOME TO THE RACES! #gamedev

Added the Horse Market, so now you can buy horses and train them up so they win you more money if you suck at betting. #gamedev

Unbelievable whimsy and joy today in The Races camp. We have music and sound effects! A music engine dynamically brings stems in depending on how far along the race is. So much fan to put some of my music in as a placeholder to hear how it sounds. Also, I found the 90s Lottery music. #gamedev

Big week this week for The Races now that majority of the gameplay loop is working well enough to move forward. Today we start the building work to move from “running in VSC” to “running OUTSIDE of VSC”. Huge, honestly, this is gonna break me. #gamedev #TheRaces

Made some delicious little game flow tweaks last night to The Races. We use a metric called RPH (Races Per Hour) to try and pack as much into a schedule in-game as we can. For a game played in real time, naturally you want enough going on that you keep engaged without getting fatigued. #gamedev

It has been NINE MONTHS since I last spoke about The Races, my Ceefax/Teletext inspired horse race betting simulation party game. Since then, we had a total redesign and, excitingly, mobile lobby functionality a la Jackbox! #gamedev

late to it but #SNLUK was great, really really great. been a fan of the US one for a long time, and glad that we’re going in a darker tone in places. it’s also not too late, producers, to get me in as your gothy-sarah sherman type writer/cast member.

kay @londonhatred.bsky.social · 27/09/2025

Blippo+ is my new favourite thing, I’m gonna be talking about this for AGES. I am a deep sucker for FMVs, old broadcasting, 80s/90s vibes, and analog video synthesis, this shit is my JAM and I wish I made it first honestly because it’s THAT GOOD.
