Marvin gets it. His messes are just a step on the journey of his self-discovery.

An abstracted landscape in oil paint.

The poem continues:
“(soon they’ll try
and pry
your breath out—)
―
Whisper it
three times in a row:
Stop Stop Stop”

When we left off, I was counting a flock of chickens before they hatched.

Hiking chickens, adventure chickens, solitude and surf and sand chickens. That'll learn me. An unexpected medical complication landed me smack on the sofa for most of our planned vacation. Someone must have whispered STOP STOP STOP. (It wasn't me, I swear it!)
I will appreciate our next hiking adventure even more.

There is a silver lining in being forced to stop. When you can do very little, you spend a lot of time looking - looking at the art, the writing, the website, the shop, the dust accumulating on the bookshelves and the cobwebs in one's head and art practice. There are many insights simmering in the cauldron of my mind.

And so we shall see what kind of soup results from this slow simmer over the coming weeks and months. The Yupo fairy (a dear friend) dropped a heap of Yupo (in various formats I had never even heard of) on my doorstep and now the imagination is running and ooooohing and aaaaaaahing and generally making me impatient.

Soon. Soon. Soon.

The Rivers Kept Speaking oil on canvas 36 x 36 On the fifth day the scientists who studied the rivers were forbidden to speak or to study the rivers. - JANE HIRSHFIELD Get the art: www.lolajovan.com/c/products/t... Story-ALTtext⬇️ #art #painting #landscapeart #abstractlandscape #river

An abstracted landscape suggestinf water, trees and sky.

The poem continues:

“The scientists who studied the air
were told not to speak of the air,
and the ones who worked for the farmers
were silenced,
and the ones who worked for the bees.
Someone, from deep in the Badlands,
began posting facts.
The facts were told not to speak
and were taken away.
The facts, surprised to be taken, were silent.
Now it was only the rivers
that spoke of the rivers,
and only the wind that spoke of its bees,
while the unpausing factual buds of the fruit trees
continued to move toward their fruit.
The silence spoke loudly of silence,
and the rivers kept speaking
of rivers, of boulders and air.
Bound to gravity, earless and tongueless,
the untested rivers kept speaking.
Bus drivers, shelf stockers,
code writers, machinists, accountants,
lab techs, cellists kept speaking.
They spoke, the fifth day,
of silence.”

Locked Rooms Pen and ink on wood 16 x 20 I want to ask you, dear sir, as best I can, to have patience about everything that is still unresolved in your heart; - RAINER MARIA RILKE Get the art: www.lolajovan.com/c/products/l... #art #fantasyart #werewolf #monsters #penandink Story-ALTtext⬇️

A young werewolf and his balloons.

The quote continues:

“Try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms, like books written in a truly foreign language. Don’t look for the answers now: they cannot be given to you yet because you cannot yet live them, and what matters is to live everything. For now, live the questions. If you do, then maybe, gradually, without your realizing it, some far-off day you will live your way into the answer. “

Werewolves ponder things. They ask questions, they search for answers, they read Rilke. And the young ones like balloons.
