I just cannot get over how perfectly Elon Musk has crafted himself into a real-life Bond villain. If we never see another Bond movie, it'll be his fault.

Anyone know of a good source for researching comic strips (not comic books) from the mid-1930s?

"I, for one, welcome our robotic overlords." I do wonder, though, if we'll see a slew of billionaires changing the names of their companies and products to comply with this. I totally expect OpenAI to become OpenSI, which will inadvertently boost sales for Sports Illustrated.

Dolly Parton could have been a billionaire. She chose instead to be a human being. Remember: There's no such thing as an ethical billionaire.

Too many pro-AI arguments only look at the situation from the consumer's point of view. It's the creators who need protection from AI.

Andy Hollandbeck @logophilius.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Let me get this straight: A person who makes a living by writing is just fine with using AI to replace other people who make a living writing. I assume she believes this only as long as AI doesn't encroach on the type of writing SHE makes a living doing.

I'm enjoying it. This could easily have been super-dry and academic, but SSG is a journalist and not a linguist, so she knows how to tell an engaging story. There are real people at the heart of everything she writes in here.

I use "Dialog Box" for on-screen pop-ups (early training working in consumer-level computer books) but "dialogue" for conversations. This isn't something I was told by a style guide, but my own preference. (This might be AP style, though -- haven't used AP in years.)

Any time you hear an AI or surveillance company make a statement about what their product does NOT do, you should add "now" to the end of it before you evaluate it. "Images of individual faces are not stored [now]." "We don't store any names or personal identifiers [now]."
