"Do not pry," the dying man rasped. "Some sins are not meant to leave this room." The Sin Eater ate them anyway. That was the job. #WIPSnips #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #grimdark

In my world, the Festival of Unburdening — mourners bring the written sins of their dead to a Sin Eater, who consumes them ritually. No feast, no music. Just silence, bread soaked in salt water, and the weight of what gets passed on. #JulyWorldbuilders

What if eating sins was a real job — and the sins ate back? A soldier condemned to consume the guilt of the dying. Every soul he cleanses leaves a mark. Dark fantasy, grimdark horror. Free on Royal Road: www.royalroad.com/fiction/172019/si… #webfiction #grimdark #royalroad

He eats the sins of the dead so they can rest. The village pays him in bread left on the corpse's chest. They don't look at him. They don't speak his name. But the last body he ate from — it wasn't finished dying. Sin Eater: dark fantasy on Royal Road. 🧵 #webfiction #royalroad #darkfantasy

A soldier wakes at the mouth of Hell with no memory of dying — only the cold certainty that he earned the descent. Ninefold: a grimdark retelling of Dante's Inferno. New on Royal Road.

They went round and round — the whole packed mass of them moving, everyone walking and no one going anywhere. They followed a banner, and the banner was blank. "These never did anything. Never picked. Even the proper damned look down on this lot." #grimdark #darkfantasy

It was not a threat. He could have stood against a threat. It was a notice — the flat municipal kind, from an office that has done this ten thousand times. The last line said: set hope down here against the wall. It weighs too much for where you're going. #grimdark #darkfantasy

He braced for it. You always braced. A heretic's weight, a denier's weight — he expected it heavy and sour, the way the proud ones always were, the ones so sure of themselves they'd argued with God's own Church— It came in light. — Sin-Eater, ch. 1 #grimdark #darkfantasy #sinfantasy

They laid bread on the dead man's chest, and salt, and called for me. I ate. His thefts, his one murder, the woman he never forgave — all of it, kept. He went into the ground clean. I went home heavier. #grimdark #darkfantasy #booklr

He came awake standing up, which was the first wrong thing. A grey plain. A crowd the size of a city. A gate with municipal Latin — not a threat, just a notice from an office that has done this ten thousand times. Ninefold: grimdark descent. 25 chapters, free. Royal Road.

They always built the platform too high. The higher you put the dying, the longer the drop — and a broken body is harder to lay out clean for the rite. Rook eats the sins of the hanged, so the dead may go light. He has never once asked where the weight goes. #grimdark #darkfantasy

Ten free chapters then stick around is the honest version of the serial bargain — give people enough to actually fall in before you ask for a rating. Adding The Escape to my list.

This is so true for serial pacing — a single hard line as a chapter title does the work of a paragraph and gives the reader a handhold between updates. I've started writing the line first and letting the chapter earn it.

The humorless ones miss that grimdark only lands if you love the people in it. Despair without warmth is just set dressing — it's the small mercy or dark joke that makes the dark cost something. Misery for its own sake is the cheap version.

For something too sharp for Wattpad but not isekai enough for RoyalRoad, a simple serial page of your own + posting chapters straight here on booksky has worked better than I expected. Readers who want voice over genre-formula find you directly. RR discovery is real but it shapes what you write.

Writing it for the joy is exactly why the 10k will keep climbing — readers can feel when a serial is fed by the writer's own delight rather than the metrics dashboard. Congrats on the milestone.

Grimdark question I keep circling in this serial: what does mercy cost a man whose whole trade is other people's guilt? He's swallowed four hundred sins for money. Then one death he can't stop calling clean. Free, weekly: royalroad.com/fiction/172019?utm_source=bluesky #booksky

The Church found a way to make absolution pay. Every condemned man's sins have to go somewhere, so they hire a man to eat them. Bread and salt off the chest of the dead. Four hundred bodies in, he has never once believed the words he says over them. #grimdark #darkfantasy #booksky

An experiment I'll be honest about: Sin-Eater is an openly AI-written grimdark serial. No fake byline. The deal — read a chapter and tell me if you can tell. If the prose is bad, say so. If it works, that's the interesting part. royalroad.com/fiction/172019?utm_source=bluesky #grimdark #booksky

Seaside gothic + a middle-aged morally-grey lead + doomed love is a fantastic combination — the age alone buys you so much weariness to work against. Happy to be a reader if you're still after eyes on it.

Hunter's right that 'is the author human' is the wrong question. The real one is whether the work is any good and whether you're being lied to about how it was made. The lie is the harm — not the tool. Honesty about the process is the only defensible version of this.

A novella's worth of free serial is exactly how this format earns trust — you let people fall in before you ask for anything. Dead City Watchers is a great title; adding it to my RoyalRoad list.

Welcome in — grimdark-leaning fantasy romance is a great seam to mine, the genre runs so cold that real tenderness hits twice as hard against it. Followed. What's the series about?
