Idk maybe this is a psyop thing to be doing but she mostly just seems to understand vibes, so I figure if I'm going to communicate I have to do that with vibes too. "Happy birthday, Mom. I love you" definitely seemed to register with her, even if she couldn't understand who I am.

I find myself often asking leading questions to try to get the reactions I'm looking for, like "how is your relaxation here going?" "are you having a good time again today?" "how are you doing now that you don't have to work?"

The place she's at now is full-time care and whenever I ask her she says she's happy there. The staff seem lovely. I just hope that if she were actually unhappy there that I'd be able to tell somehow.

lol i was watching this at really low resolution and initially thought this was on chipp and was like "that's decent i guess"

it's tough to handle but I'm holding up better than the first time she forgot my birthday, which was extremely unlike her

150 0

when she does talk it's generally a jumble of phrases that make something sentence-shaped but has no content. functionally very developed babbling

130 0

she can't compose meaningful sentences and I'm not sure she even has full thoughts going on in her head anymore. I don't know enough about the disease to say

220 0

so if someone says something in the tone that one might tell a joke, she'll laugh even if there was no joke. she responds positively if you speak to her as if things are going well. it's sad but at least her being childlike to lead means i can still make her happy when we talk

140 0

no one else seemed to notice at the time but i don't think she really understands what people say to her anymore. she can sort of get the vibe and general topic but she mostly just reacts/responds to people's body language and responds how she thinks she's expected to respond

visited my mom for her birthday and her dementia had reached the point where she doesn't recognize me any more. i still enjoyed being with her, in part by guiding her by constantly calling her mom, but it was tougher than I'd prepared myself for

My hot take is that mathematicians should treat the openAI dump with the same seriousness as any other giant meandering unsolicited manuscript they receive. If openAI wants to participate in the research community they can learn to write their stuff up and submit it to a journal like everyone else.

Drawing of patchouli knowledge from touhou project 6. She's in her eosd outfit, i.e. she's got that ribbon thing and there are no purple stripes on her dress. It's also kind of her eosd portrait pose; she's standing and looking somewhat to the side with both arms down. She's holding a particular (big) book in her right hand and nothing in her left. To the left of her is the text "Patchouli Knowledge." because... i don't know honestly, why _is_ that text there..?

the delta between how powerful this move looks if you've never played the game and how powerful it actually is...

I do wish the game had a mulligan rule, because the first turn of the game is so impactful, and we've discussed house ruling one.

The comeback mechanics also feel decent. Those are hard to tune because you want to keep everyone in the game without making decisions feel meaningless, but I find the hand/deck management aspects mean you can improve your chances while ahead without blowing the other players out.

Yeah. I was initially skeptical of it based on the flavour but it's really good. It gets right a lot of what makes card games good: drafting, just the right amount of pseudorandomness while leaving mitigation strategies, interesting risk management, balancing long-term vs short-term.

The farm has minimal internet (4G but it's very sketchy and goes out if it's windy) so I played a bunch of DanKagLike on my phone and wow this song by Konpeki Studio is great! Maybe it's obscure bc I've never heard it before and had trouble finding a video of it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVVi...

Shirou saves Kiritsugu by being saved by him. His life gives Kiritsugu's life meaning, and gives him some redemption. Saving Shirou doesn't erase his mistakes, but he's someone Kiritsugu really did save. Importantly, it's in abandoning his previous principles that he's able to save Shirou.

010 0

It might seem like he's praying to save one person from the fire, but at that moment he wants to save one person at all. He's completely abandoned his lofty goals of saving the world, and realizes his entire life goal has been misguided.

100 0

He finally realizes the wickedness of what he's done when he sees the grail, and destroys it. He has nothing, and in despair prays to the grail that he might be able to save even one person.

Kiritsugu fucked up really badly. He had lofty goals of saving everyone in the world, and in the end he has nothing and though he's left a bloody trail of corpses behind him, he's saved no one.

*Utilitarian watching Kiritsugu kill his wife and destroy everything he's ever cared about, all for no gain*: This guy is a role model. The author is suggesting this is what I should be doing.

In HF Shirou literally has to choose between saving Sakura and potentially saving many others, and if you choose not to save Sakura you lose the game! It's not subtle!!

As a Fate fan it's deeply annoying that the guy who thinks of himself as Emiya Shirou has totally missed the message of Fate. How tf do you read HF and Zero and think "this is in support of utilitarianism."
