As always, thorough and thoughtful reporting from @jillbarshay.bsky.social "The damage is cumulative and will unfold over years. ... the deeper loss belongs to the children and teachers who will never benefit from the knowledge that would have been generated."
"The damage is cumulative and will unfold over years. Longitudinal studies were cut off midstream, multiyear research programs collapsed, and promising lines of inquiry vanished before they could mature. Careers were derailed, but the deeper loss belongs to the children and teachers who will never benefit from the knowledge that would have been generated."

Learning requires friction. Good learning environments reduce unproductive friction. They also provide support so learners can work through productive friction. Using AI to remove all friction removes the learner from what is to be learned. Doing difficult things is entirely the point!

"The moment one gives close attention to anything, even a blade of grass, it becomes a mysterious, awesome, indescribably magnificent world in itself." -- Henry Miller
The quote in context of the larger paragraph, taken from Henry Miller's "Plexus", p. 56. Five sentences later, he notes presciently, "Sometimes one makes the mistake or commits the sin, shall I say, of trying to fix the moment, trying to pin it down in words."

The original quote: “The moment one gives close attention to anything, even a blade of grass, it becomes a mysterious, awesome, indescribably magnificent world in itself”

In case you thought your kids will be safe in a blue state--our future Secretary of Education is proposing moving special education under RFK Jr. at HHS.
Screen shot from Linda McMahon's confirmation hearing. When asked what she would do with special education if the Department of Education is eliminated, McMahon responded that special education funding "could very well go back to HHS where it started." HHS being the agency now officially led by RFK Jr., who opposes not only vaccines but also the treatment of kids with ADHD meds.
