I learned to drive in Brampton, which then as now had some of the highest car insurance premiums in the country because drivers were just that bad. I figured it would prepare me for anything. Then I moved to Toronto.

Ma Carney: “Mark, why haven’t you done the dishes yet?” Young Mark Carney: “Dish washing is more a journey than a destination. My job is to move as far and as fast down this path as I can.”

Pierre Poilievre’s real problem isn’t that he is facing discontent from within his caucus; it’s that he’s losing support from important Conservatives from without.

In the Toronto archives there’s a photo of my corner taken in 1966, and the low-rise apartment block had awnings over the windows. My guess is the owner decided somewhere along the line to save a few bucks on maintenance.

Oh come on. Ford would be Marshal Pétain, premier of Vichy Ontario. And Carney wouldn’t play anything near the role of de Gaulle. He’s Neville Chamberlain promising the New York Times that we’ll have peace in our time.

Davis S Pumpkins @lloyddavis.ca · 26/09/2026
Carney is more Chamberlain than de Gaulle. And Theo must’ve gotten high on Martin Regg Cohn’s supply, because Ford would 100 percent be Marshal Pétain.

It’s got nothing to do with the city. The story involves a lawsuit where the plaintiff claims the defendant (the artist credited with the work) owes him money. The sculpture is not in any danger.

In these challenging times, when Canada’s house is on fire, it does no good to complain about the man who’s emptying a Jerry can full of gasoline on the flames. Let Carney (let us) cook, and when things settle down we can talk about nice-to-haves like combatting climate change.

Carney is truly the Reagan of Canada. A calming, paternalistic figure in a period of apocalyptic uncertainty who galvanizes the economy with short-sighted right wing fiscal policies. And like Reagan, every disaster that Canada encounters in the future will be traceable to his administration.
