Artist, maker of things, petter of cats. I like this place better than the other places. Sketchbooks forever (no matter what machines you use to help, you can't skip the drawing. ) I'm mostly here to see what you have to say & show me about this world.

Well thanks for that, now I smell mash and see sodium vapor light as if 1995 Burnside was just in the next room.

when you have a kid for a couple decades you find sometimes they're right about something and you're wrong, and it's easy to accept it graciously. sometimes they know more than you about something specific and you learn from it. you can even say sorry to them! it's actually all hilariously easy

Drove past a sign advertising new "luxury" homes and wondered what ever happened to a nice little house in a neighborhood with an actual library and post office.

Good day for it.
A photo of northeastern Utah taken from the window of a passenger jet, showing a blue sky and scattered cumulus clouds over a partally forested mountain landscape. A reservoir is visible in the distance.

I've progressed from "oh look, there's a possum in the back yard" to "let's check the backyard critter cam to see if the possums were out last night" to "maybe I should make a possum house"

This isn't a metaphor. Just a story about a roach. COMIC ◆ www.smbc-comics.com/comic/roach-2 PATREON ◆ www.patreon.com/ZachWeinersm... STORE ◆ smbc-store.myshopify.com
4-panel SMBC comic update. The first panel shows a cartoon little roach happily saying "oh man! The stupid human put food in here. fool!" The next panel shows the roach walking away from a poison trap as he says "I’m gonna give it to everyone!" The third panel shows a human at his computer with a similar expression to that of the cartoon roach. The man says "this stupid company made a controversial ad. How embarrassing for them!" The man then walks away from the computer desk, at an angle reminiscent to the panel where the roach walks away from the poison trap. The man says "better share with all my friends and family so everyone knows which ad not to look at."

It's why I sadly leave my fountain pens at home when I fly. For opaque color, watercolor crayons/pencils are much less 'splodey.

In the restaurants I've seen that have robot waiters, the robot does the lifting and carrying, the human does the interacting (taking the orders, checking on the table)

"doesn't understand the appeal of patina" feels like neat summation of American aesthetics
A BBC story headline reads: "Worth $5M? Visitors react to renovated Washington horse statues." There are two photos. One from 2013 that shows the horse statues in their older, patina state. And one from 2026 that shows them covered in 23.75-karat gold leaf.

For #InternationalCatDay, here is Pippin, the store cat at Leighton's. He climbs onto selected customers (me in this case), hugs them, and helps them select shiny rocks.
A large black and white cat clings to the back of a person with long silver hair and a black shirt, who is looking at a jewelry display case inside a rock and gem shop. A sign in the background reads "Maine Tourmaline." A salesperson in a blue shirt is standing behind the case.

that almost seems like it's a deliberate slop aesthetic- similar to pre-ai, janky cut and paste, deliberately ugly meme-y stuff.

I'm glued to the window. I used to bring a paper map and listen to United's From The Cockpit channel to figure out where I was and what I was looking at. After that it was my Garmin, and eventually my phone. I miss the days when the pilot would tell us when we were flying over something interesting

not only does one have to pack for the actual trip, you have to pack *for security* and pack *for the plane* and it's exhausting. Or take extra step/$ of checking a bag. Blah.

I've been thinking about my star-spangled swimsuit from that era, and my friend announcing she had Bicentennial eyes after an afternoon in the pool. I was ten. I may stay alive for the tricentennial simply out of spite, or stubborn hope.

Bad design of vehicles plus bad design of intersections = deadly. I drive a relatively small giant SUV. I try to drive it with the knowledge that at some point I'm gonna get out and be one of the people crossing the road, and I don't want to get run over either.

A large house spider startled me in the basement and I screeched, and it DEFINITELY looked at me like "could you not?" Then i opened the basement door and it left, away from the noisy human.
