How about no. I’m just going to mash that report spam button.
Unsolicited text message from the Conservative Party of BC asking who I will vote for.

Apparently this image is enough to get an Instagram account suspended in today's world. Anyways, the legend that has become The Penthouse sign in Vancouver lives on.

And make that 2 in one day!
August 26, 2026

To my constituents, friends, and neighbours,

Effective immediately, I am stepping away from the Conservative Party of British Columbia and will sit in the Legislature as an Independent Conservative.

I entered politics to serve the people of Courtenay-Comox and to help build a serious, principled, right-of-centre alternative to David Eby’s NDP government.

That responsibility belongs to every person I represent, whether they voted for me or not. They deserve an MLA who conducts himself honourably, acts with integrity, and is prepared to stand by the values he was elected to carry to Victoria.

The current direction of the Conservative Party of BC under Kerry-Lynne Findlay is no longer something I can support. More fundamentally, I have lost confidence in the judgment, conduct, and ethical standards of her leadership and those she has chosen to surround herself with.

Public office demands integrity. I cannot ask others to meet that standard while remaining silent when I believe my own party’s leadership has fallen short of it. Nor can I reconcile doing so with the commitments I made to the people who sent me to Victoria.

I will continue to fight, as I always have, for responsible government, fiscal discipline, individual freedom, strong public services, and an economy that rewards hard work and opportunity. I will continue to hold David Eby and the NDP, the most destructive government in British Columbia’s history, to account.

My loyalty remains where it has always belonged: with the people that put their trust in me to serve with integrity.

🎶And another one gone, and another one gone....🎶 She was, as I recall, an early BC United defector too.
I’ve made the decision today that I can no longer serve as a member of the BC Conservative Caucus under the leadership of Kerry-Lynne Findlay and I will sit as an Independent Member of the Legislative Assembly.

On July 29, it was reported in the media that during the BC Conservative leadership campaign, Ms. Findlay was alleged to have made serious and unfounded accusations about me, including remarks that called my allegiance to Canada into question. These remarks were disrespectful, hurtful and made me question my place in the BC Conservatives under her leadership. At the time though, I was travelling with family and I attempted to put the matter behind me. I had a brief conversation thereafter with the leader who did not apologize and wanted to focus on what’s ahead of us. I decided to try to move on.

When I recently returned home, I understood the full extent and reach of Ms. Findlay’s comments. I had many friends and individuals from the community reach out to me to say they do not believe these false allegations and were shocked no apology was issued. I realized that these allegations had caused real damage to my reputation and had created serious concern within the community.

Following an exchange with Ms. Findlay and her Chief of Staff earlier this week, I was told an apology and clarification would be issued. To date, no statement has been issued.

I cannot continue to sit in a caucus led by someone who has questioned my loyalty without evidence and, when given the opportunity to correct the record, has failed to do so.

I make my decision with a heavy heart, proud of what we have achieved since I joined the BC Conservatives. Unfortunately, I believe all that progress is now at risk. I firmly believe we need an alternative to the NDP that is trying to grow and not one trying to divide. That is not the direction of the BC Conservatives under Kerry-Lynne Findlay.

I want to thank my BC Conservative colleagues who have been steadfast with me. I consider you …

Apparently some Conservative Party members are waking up to this finally too.

Reann Gasper resignation
I thought Reann Gasper was doing a great job as our
MLA. While I have had concerns that there were some too far right members of the BC Conservatives, I believed that a new leader would move to the centre right. How wrong I was! To me it was shocking when Kerry Lynn Findlay was chosen as the leader.
I stated to anyone who would listen that her asking MLAs to step down so she could run in their seat was very wrong. Her husband, Brent Chapman, is the MLA for Surrey South. She lives there but apparently did not ask here husband to step down.
A search of Mr. Chapman's name reveals a number of racist and conspiracy statement he made in past and later recanted.
Ms. Findlay should have asked her husband to step down!
I firmly believe that the majority of voters in BC prefer a centre right or centre left party as government. I believe Ms. Findlay represents a huge step to the far right. Some media have portrayed her as "MAGA light." Her choice of interim leader seems to amplify that.
I have always belleved that government should be fiscally conservative but with a heart. Those in our society needing assistance must be given it. I don't see that happening with this leadership.
For that reason I am tendering my resignation as a member of the BC Conservative party and as president of Reann Gasper's riding association.
I am hopeful that a centre right or centre left party will arise to rid us of both far left and far right extremes.

It’s trans day of visibility today. I’ve never been one that wanted to be visible. It’s been almost 10 years since I started my transition, and while I’m not exactly where I want to be I’m far better than where I started.

I remember that year. I spent the weekend at Apex, came home expecting to have to shovel my driveway only to find that my neighbour had taken his tractor and cleared the street and my driveway.

Just my old riding's MLA coming to defend her bigot buddy. As usual, she's got her facts backwards. The SOGI 123 stuff and Barry is background noise to the fact he defamed another School Board Trustee and was found liable for that. He's going to Jail for contempt of that ruling. #bcpoli
Screenshot of Heather Maahs MLA Twitter account post with the following text:

Barry is a retired probation officer. His clients were sex offenders. He saw SOGI 123 as a resource that needed to be removed because of the damage it could cause. He was vilified for this. The rest is background noise and now he's going to jail. Barry's integrity remains intact.

It’s been probably 15 years since I’ve built my own computer. I’m still amazed how much has changed since I last did it but at the same time still familiar. Other than getting the RAM speed set correctly and some odd SATA performance issues was straightforward.
A collection of computer components in their boxes. Includes a Corsair RM850e power supply, 3500X case, and 360 AIO. ASUS Motherboard, RTX 5070 Ti. Finally some Kingston Fury RAM, a Samsung NVMe and a AMD Ryzen 7 CPUAll the components assembled with the power on, in a dark room with the RGB LEDs set to a blue and purple hue.

I’m happy the RCMP is recognizing their past wrongs. But, they need to stop trying to make it sound like ancient history, my deferral in March 2016 was explicitly because of my gender identity. I was unsuitable for employment because I identified as trans but hadn’t transitioned.
Screen shot of a post on LinkedIn from the RCMP with the following text:

Everyone deserves to be treated with respect and fairness.

Transgender Awareness Week is a chance to reflect on how Canadians stand up for collective human rights, and how our society and laws have changed over time.

Standing alongside Canadians, the RCMP has acted to repair past injustices. This includes discrimination and harm faced by the transgender community during “The Purge.”

Acknowledging our historic wrongdoings is part of our motivation to do right by law – and to build trusting relationships.

We’re committed to doing better through accountability, openness and equal treatment for every person we serve and work alongside.

We invite you to learn more about the human-focused values that shape the RCMP’s work for all communities.

So Rustad has been asked to resign by members of the management committee. The political circus continues. #bcpoli
October 21, 2025
John Rustad
Leader of the Conservative Party of British Columbia
Mr. Rustad,
The purpose of this letter is to address the unprecedented level of turmoil that has engulfed our party since the October 19, 2024, provincial general election.
While leadership inevitably involves navigating challenging circumstances, the constant and prolonged discord shows no sign of abating. The resulting state of chaos - driven by a series of decisions and actions taken under your leadership + has destabilized the party's internal cohesion and diminished its public credibility.
As the leader, it is your responsibility to unite the party around a common vision and to lead us forward with purpose and clarity. As evidenced by sagging poll numbers, memberships, fundraising, a shrinking caucus and staff, philosophically inconsistent policy, low morale and perhaps most importantly, a lack of enthusiasm and tepid endorsement from our membership, your leadership has ceased to serve that purpose.
The current sitting members of the Management Committee of the Board of Directors cease to have confidence in your leadership. We ask that you immediately step down as leader, allowing for a subsequent leadership contest to choose a new leader to take the party into the next provincial election.
John, your efforts have been instrumental to putting the party on its feet and into the position of being the largest official opposition in provincial history. We acknowledge and thank you for your service. It's now time for a next chapter to take our shared vision of a Conservative government in British Columbia across the finish line.
Sincerely,
The undersigned members of the Management Committee
Conservative Party of British Columbia

The BC Legislature had a motion on the floor to condemn ARPA for their hateful advocacy against members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community. The entire BC Conservative caucus were no shows at the vote. No representation, no integrity, no morals. Imagine this non-serious party being in power. #bcpoli
