The shreds of this iteration of the Republican Party (formerly self-syled as the party of law and order) deserve 40 years in the desert over their clear contempt for our Constitution and the rule of law. American voters can make a difference. Vote Trump's enablers out of office. #VoteBlue

Yeah. Something to note to any purple-district Democratic congress critter who keeps talking about the need to deport "just the criminal illegals" even as ICE keeps on profiling brown folk and even detaining citizens with papers. It's not just the GOP winking and nodding at ICE excesses. 🙀🤬

We pay taxes to provide for seniors' healthcare but now the govt runs a trial of paying private companies 25% of a procedure's cost when they use AI to DENY that care... a monstrous abuse of power, a nauseating example of Trump admin's corruption under the guise of "saving" taxpayer funds. 🔥🤬😵‍💫😖

#ICE needs to be stopped in its tracks by #DHS while we elect a new Congress that will refashion laws that govern how immigration is handled in the USA, because clearly it's not being done properly. Too much violence, poor hiring criteria and training. Unconscionable and unconstitutional.

Created in 1999 by Japanese modern woodblock master Nishida Tadashige (b. 1942), Shinki Itten (3) ("Change of Heart / A Fresh Start") stands as a captivating example of the artist’s celebrated feline series.
The print features a sleek black cat (kuro-neko) turning its body in a fluid, inquisitive twist to look back over its shoulder. Rendered in velvety, deep obsidian tones with subtle blue-grey highlights along its back, the cat’s lithe form creates a dramatic graphic silhouette. Its wide, amber-yellow eyes hold the viewer with startling intensity, capturing that quintessential feline state of sudden alertness—a fleeting pause where curiosity and poise converge.

Nishida’s composition offers a sophisticated interplay between traditional screen painting techniques and contemporary sōsaku-hanga printmaking aesthetics. The background is printed in rich, metallic gold reminiscent of Edo-period gilded folding screens (kin-byōbu), complete with a subtle wood-grain embossment (mokume-zuri) and delicate panel lines. Inscribed at the top in bold, calligraphic kanji is the four-character idiom (yojijukugo) Shinki Itten (心機一転)—translating to "a complete change of mind," "turning over a new leaf," or "a fresh perspective." The cat's physical pivot mirrors the literal meaning of the phrase, framing the animal's spontaneous glance as a philosophical metaphor for mental transformation and renewed awareness.

In Japanese artistic heritage, cats have long occupied a cherished and enigmatic space, from Utagawa Kuniyoshi’s playful Edo-period woodblocks to Hishida Shunsō’s iconic Meiji paintings. Nishida Tadashige honors this lineage while infusing it with clean, graphic modernity.

Aesthetically, the work relies on the striking contrast between the radiant, enduring warmth of the gold field and the soft, shadowy presence of the black cat, invoking the quiet mystery of yūgen. The animal's unstudied, graceful posture exemplifies iki—an effortless, refined stylishness rooted in urban sophistication.
