Learned last night you can buy rose-colored glasses for Dylan and somehow that’s the most Dylan-coded accessory I can imagine. #ControlResonant

This kind of thing happens because executives have contracts - exactly the thing they deny the rank-and-file by discouraging/preventing unionization. Not a one of us could fuck up our jobs this bad and walk away with multiple lifetimes of retirement money.

People often focus on those GOP voters who agree with the current hideous agenda, and that's valid. But the GOP voters I know are eyeball-deep in absolute lies and hysteria. Just utterly mired in fabricated panic. I have no idea what to do about those voters.

I had the temerity to leave a book on my nightstand last night, and this morning at 5 AM PantherCat protested my use of the space usually reserved for him by scratching on the windowsill until I got out of bed. I love him unreservedly. I do not know why.

Science fiction is currently roughly six percent of the current fiction market in North America and fantasy is (again, roughly) four times that. There's definitely more money in fantasy. In all genres, I will note, the money is very unequally distributed. (Horror... fluctuates)

This enrages me so deeply I don't know what to say. Being able to control your body is *the* most basic freedom, one which is necessary for the exercise of all other freedoms possible in a liberal democratic society

Here’s a sample of the translation, it’s a great piece.
"Everywhere I looked, I saw companies that shouldn't exist. Companies built around misleading their customers, saying Al could do all sorts of things it couldn't do. And I hate people getting rich by conning people."
Zitron vented his incendiary monologues on
¡HeartRadio, America's largest radio publisher.
"The people at the radio company told me to lean into who I am. It helped me grow as a person."
It also spread his disgust and contempt for Silicon Valley. In Zitron's view, tech executives are trying to pull the wool over everyone's eyes: claiming that Al will acquire godlike powers and pose a threat, while insisting that development must move so quickly that nobody has time to think. That, according to Zitron, is "the oldest trick in the con artist's book." In a recent podcast episode, he told Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei to shut up twelve times.
"That was fun. I'm proud of that episode," he says with a smile. But somewhere along the way, he has also grown into a new role - that of a serious commentator. And he is careful to point out that there are reasons for his anger. Focusing on the anger, he says, is a way of sidestepping the real issue.
"It's easier to see an angry man than to deal with a complex, uncomfortable truth."
His answers come quickly. Talking to him is both entertaining and mildly dizzying. Zitron is engaged, articulate and full of metaphors. He also mixes categorical pronouncements — such as the claim that Al almost exclusively makes people stupider - with a barrage of hard data.
For example, he points to OpenAl and Anthropic's spending, which is set to rise next year as computing capacity they have ordered becomes ready to come online. Claims like this, along with his reporting that hundreds of thousands of Nvidia GPUs are sitting unused in warehouses, have led outlets including the Financial Times to quote directly from Zitron's blog, Where's Your Ed At.

The ‘efficiency‘ thing really bugs me. You think it’s just you and an app on your phone or computer, but you’re not seeing the mass of energy-hungry GPUs in the data centre cranking out answers, and you’re not paying the full cost, it’s heavily subsidised. How is that ‘efficiency’?

90 years ago. Which is why the fascists think they can get away with it now. Who's around who remembers? And THIS is why you tell your kids about the past. "It was before my time" should never be an excuse for ignorance.

They quoted me in this New Yorker piece about AI today. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
“Let’s say there’s a world or time line I exist in where A.I. has been subject to regulation. It is ethical. It has no footprint environmentally,” the novelist Jeff VanderMeer, a prominent critic of A.I., told me over the phone. “With those guardrails in place, would I read an A.I. book? All I can say is no. And the reason is, in part, because I want to read something coming from a particular mind.” Using A.I., he said, “feels like a betrayal of the whole point of why you’re a writer.”

Took me a while to recognize that my publishing team’s enthusiasm about my debut was about their hopes for their own professional success. When the book failed, they moved on without a thought for me. That’s how the business works. It’s not personal. Even if you like them, it’s not personal.

You can't fix software with software. Suggesting these "agents" are "going rogue" is like suggesting when my PS5 freezes halfway through a new game, the game just decided to fuck with me. No. It's a BUG. Bugs happen. And *all* software operates "outside the control of humans."

I know some writers have reasons to stay out of contact. But if you *want* contact - you need a discoverable web site, and a contact form that works (it’s worth testing periodically). If you’d like fan mail, make it easy for your readers!
