Congrats to Siddharthan Lakshmanan for his successful MSc defense today! Great work on gramillin sensitivity in barley and lots of great discussion on ionophores and how they are sensed by plants 😀🌿👨‍🔬 All the best in your PhD journey at U of T!

I'm excited to share that I've joined the Microbiology and Plant Pathology Department at UC Riverside as an Assistant Professor. I feel very lucky to work alongside some amazing researchers here and I'm looking forward to setting up the lab to keep working on Fusarium!

Plant Hydathodes Detect Microbial Patterns to Close Hydathode Pores and Restrict Leaf Entry | Phytopathology® apsjournals.apsnet.org/doi/10.1094/... Hydathode pores—tiny openings at leaf edges which are thought to be open for pathogen entry—can detect microbial signals and shut temporarily! 💪🪴

What a fun day we had making a protocol video on plant-toxin interactions with Martin from JOVE. Thanks to Whynn for getting it all ready - the lab was sparkling! 😀🌾Video coming soon app.jove.com/t/69026/eval...

A bacterial exotoxin-triggered plant immune response restricts pathogen growth
Thoms et al. demonstrate that perception of a bacterial exotoxin allows plants to distinguish between closely related microbiota, which has consequences for rhizosphere microbiome structure and functi...

Using precise spatial and temporal analysis, researchers in Science provide insight into how bacteria around the root interact both with the plant and with each other. Learn more in this week's issue: scim.ag/3WgNajk
A confocal microscopy image shows root-colonizing bacteria clustering around an emerging lateral root, where localized glutamine leakage induces spatially confined reporter activity.

Check our MSc student's work on barley dormancy, which just came out! His work on the SD1 locus in Canadian barley suggests that the underlying AlaAT1 regulates hypoxia sensitivity. Congrats Lochlen! acsess.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....
