Even if correct it would still be a wise investment economically. It would soon pay for itself many times over with cheaper energy. May even be worth it for immediate jobs alone.

The fact remains that there is nowhere else to vote for climate progress. And if it does hurt them, it will test if the greens' democratic process can course correct. But I wouldn't be so quick to deny the potential of gesture politics in this era anyway.

Yes please, and go international with it too! If only we could engineer some kind of high speed rail across the Pacific and Atlantic. Maybe we could launch planes off the back of trains too, to save a smidge more emissions? Fixing our UK trains would be a good start

Writing and the printing press spread faith with holy books, social media did it in a Durkheim, pagan kind of way (influencers as saints/minor deities of capital, likes as offerings, extreme othering), AI could be a return to a monotheistic collective faith?

Leveraging policy that commits structural omnicide becomes more profane every day, and should result in a lot of jail time. We can already quantify the mass killings, so lets start the convictions!

Student debt is a political choice. We used to have grants, healthy FE, and an intellectual ecosystem consistently producing world leading cultural contributions. Traces of that value remain alive as we shred our institutions in a race to the bottom

The May and June heatwaves killed 2,700 people in England and Wales, new data suggests. This is a damning indictment of the climate crisis but also a warning the U.K. needs an urgent plan to keep disabled and older people and young children safe in extreme heat. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

In this podcast I'm trying out some new thinking. I've come to believe that there are three entirely distinct and, in many cases, contradictory philosophies within modern environmentalism. It's a work in progress and I would very much value your feedback. Thanks. 🧵 bsky.app/profile/wepl...

Continuity doesn't need awareness. AIs can filter for our intelligibility because they are an extension of it, and our intersubjectivity will quickly remold itself around new tecnnological forms.

It all becomes shorthand of shorthand of shorthand... perpetually. Emotion/instinct, evolution/body, social context, memory: all key layers shorthand, filtered down to availability & relevance in a single moment, a prison of amnesia.

Perhaps embodiment is evolutionary more than individual, but perhaps that history is also in AI data, just way less relevent to its info management?

We are also discarding such quantities. & who says embodiment has to be physical? Are people with sensory disabilities less conscious?

Desire/objectives ✅️ Therefore sense/feeling ✅️ Memory/singular identity ❌️ Embodiment. What is an AIs body? Did it have billions of yrs to gradually adapt to using it? ❌️ Emotion: shorthand inrerpretations with physiological effect (eg a survival instinct thatb overrides programming)❓️
