they kiiiinda have now, sony will still sell you some models (allegedly?) but they functionally haven't changed since 2015. panasonic has some more recent models though iirc

well i was talking about my 4k handycam but yeah same idea

people are truly sleeping on the humble camcorder tbh. really compact stabilized power zoom with a ton of range and the ability to use actually decent video codecs plus ergonomics that are actually suitable for video... nobody else does it like the camcorder.
