Not everyone knows that the man standing next to Bob Marley in this photo helped create one of Bob’s most famous songs. His name was Noel George Williams, better known as King Sporty. The song? “Buffalo Soldier.”
Music producer NG Williams, aka King Sporty arms crossed standing next to a promotional cutout banner of Bob Marley standing next to King Sporty! Photo taken at Roger Steffens' legendary Reggae Archives in Los Angeles, California.

One of the least-known chapters in Bob Marley's career began with Martha Veléz. She caught Bob's attention after hearing her song "Living Outside the Law" he felt a philosophical kinship with her, and was impressed by her voice. That connection led to three weeks of recording in Jamaica, in 1975

Long before viral marketing, Neville Garrick created a scratch-and-sniff ganja album cover for Peter Tosh's Bush Doctor. Too controversial for some UK retailers, it remains one of reggae's boldest promotional ideas, and one more story preserved in Roger Steffens' archives. #Livicated #Music #history
Long before social media. Long before influencers. Long before viral marketing.

In 1978, legendary Jamaican artist Neville Garrick designed Peter Tosh's Bush Doctor with a scratch-and-sniff sticker scented like ganja.

The idea was so controversial that major UK retailers refused to stock it, forcing EMI to issue replacement sleeves without the sticker.

Today, it's remembered as one of reggae's boldest marketing campaigns—and one more remarkable story preserved in Roger Steffens' reggae archives.

Note: The copy shown is not Roger's. His original, signed copy is professionally framed and securely stored in a Los Angeles warehouse.
