🌏 How should carbon removal projects be governed ❓   📣  In our new paper in Nature Climate Change (@natclimate.nature.com), we asked 10,852 people in six counties to judge hypothetical carbon removal projects. ⚖️ We find that getting procedural and distributive fairness right is key 👇

New research with @sovacool.bsky.social finds that public consultation, expert scrutiny & fair sharing of benefits can increase support for carbon removal technologies, with people unwilling to trade fairness for greater technical performance. bennettinstitutesussex.org/stories/carb...

Emission scenarios inevitably embed assumptions about fairness. Tracking these assumptions is genuinely difficult, but making them transparent matters. We developed a framework to do just that. @ic-cep.bsky.social #IIASA @imperialcollegeldn.bsky.social 1/2

🌍Public consultations on CDR attract mostly for profit actors from the GlobalNorth, disagreeing with NGOs about its regulation. 💡This and more in our new #Uptake article with @liviafritz.bsky.social and Benjamin Sovacool on EU and UNFCCC consultations. Open link www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

New #GENIE article on #climate emotions at a global level, and how these correspond to support for ten climate intervention approaches. Now available in Risk Analysis (with @liviafritz.bsky.social, Elina Brutschin, Benjamin Sovacool) 🧵 Open access link: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...
F I G U R E 3 Emotions about climate change (hopeful, afraid, angry, and sad) across 30 countries, on a 1–5 scale (1 = not at all, 5 = extremely) withN = 30,284 participants (at least 1000 participants in each country); Numbers to the left reflect those answering “1” or “2,” in the middle “3,” and to the right“4” or “5.” Panel (a) shows the results for “hopeful”; Panel (b) for “afraid”; Panel (c) for ”angry”; and Panel (d) for “sad”.

What are public perceptions on climate change and carbon-dioxide removal around the world? The survey dataset by @chadmbaum.bsky.social @liviafritz.bsky.social et al is now available via the #GENIE CDR Knowledge Hub... 📝 cdr.apps.ece.iiasa.ac.at/story/2025_0...
Worry about Climate Change across thirty countries, on a 1-5 scale (1=, 5= Extremely) with N=30,284 participants (at least 1,000 participants in each country).

In all surveyed countries, more than 75% of survey participants are somewhat or more worried about climate change.
