@catwif3.bsky.social I tend to feel this same way. They do have a premium tier so presumably that's where the ad money comes from? You can accomplish many of the same things with the canvas feature in Obsidian (which is entirely local and stores your notes as human-readable text files)

Okay so I nearly got barfed on at the event but crucially I dodged out of the way and none got on me or my camera and maybe I'm only making $15/hr before taxes but AT LEAST IT'S NOT DOORDASH

I had to miss (most of) the farmer's market apple tasting to shoot an event but at least it's a beautiful day (and my catboy phone background is giving me strength).

Finished reading "You Weren't Meant to Be Human" by Andrew Joseph White and holy shit. I think I need to lie down for several days to digest like a snake. I read like half of this thing in one sitting and now I'm supposed to go to sleep?? Like normal??

It's kinda funny that the ear piercing I got on Friday the 13th over a year ago has stubbornly refused to heal. Cursed.

your pal livali @livali.bonyfish.net · 27/09/2026

Well. Mostly Nik and Holly are dealing with that. Currently I am on the couch under a cat, feeling like a fainting Victorian maiden. If I have to make one more decision today I fear I will scream.

We got an interior gutter system for waterproofing and a new floor because they had to tear up the old one (which was not great anyway) but there's a gap of varying size between the gutter and the wall and cave crickets the size of baby mice keep coming through. So now we are dealing with that.

My basement has been in a state of upheaval since early August and I am becoming increasingly truculent about it, even though it is ultimately for the purpose of making it more inhabitable in the long-term.

My keyboard has been Replaced.

Photo of my desk from above. A white and brown tabby cat is contentedly lying on my desk with her head on my arm and her feet stretching out in front of her. I visibly can no longer reach my keyboard.

Point of view shot of my desk. The entire lower half of the photo is occupied by a white and brown tabby cat, whose little foot is resting in my left hand, which itself is barely visible beyond the cat. She appears to be trying to press the space bar of the keyboard with her other foot. The keyboard has been evacuated for its own safety.

Holly: "I was thinking about your shots, and thinking what if, instead of one T shot a week for 5 years, you got 250 shots all at once. Would that be fucked up or what." Me: "That's what happened to Captain America."

All that said, I don't know that the Dell's specs are $2000 better than my hacked Chromebook's. Just my onion.

000

your pal livali @livali.bonyfish.net · 17/09/2026

Tests because I was bored waiting for my boss to get me the credentials I need to do an assignment. The Dell scored well given how clunky it feels with Windows 11. I didn't realize the Linuxbook's specs were better than the tinylaptop's. Maybe I can get more adventurous with what I try to run on it.

Table comparing CPU, GPU, and RAM benchmark results for the super-expensive Dell laptop I was assigned for work, my refurbished hacked Chromebook with linux on it, and my tiny GPD Pocket 3 microlaptop.

your pal livali @livali.bonyfish.net · 17/09/2026

Who would win: Dell XPS 15 9520 I was given by my work IT department, with 32GB and a discrete GPU (MSRP about $2600 in 2023 when it was new); or the $300 scratch-and-dent refurbished Chromebook I bought in 2024 and installed Ultramarine Linux on?

here's my number one word mix up that kills me: LOATH: (adjective); reluctant. "he was loath to admit it," etc LOATHE: (verb!); to hate. "he loathed admitting it," you see how it's used differently? ("loathing" is a noun/participle form of the verb, not the adjective!) #englishisstupid

Do you want to draw more than you have in months? I recommend hyperfixating on an unpopular pairing from a 20 yr old anime. Nothing can go wrong when you're hyperfixating on an unpopular pairing from a 20 yr old anime.

@supernovablade.bsky.social Yep, that sounds about right! And of course as time goes on, the resources people share about getting film cameras fixed become more out of date as businesses close and people retire. I was heartened to find a few repair shops actively training apprentices.

One thing I'm really enjoying about Immich, now that I have my photos in there, is getting to see what I was doing on this day in the past. Today I was served a photo from 15 years ago of my hand, with a Hello Kitty bandaid on one finger, holding a cigar and a lighter.
