i mean, yeah it makes no sense coming all the way back etc but also isn't it just as well that i hadn't booked to go to gaussfest? (i am totally sore about not being able to go to gaussfest, as it was going to be a b-day trip for an offspring)

dammit. now i know why i could smell perfume - bottle shattered in my bag at some point in the week since i last opened the 'selection box'. at no point did anything get wet, but the high conc. of perfume and essential oils means that, oh boy that's a lot of scent.

So I get a bit of cervix or near bleeding, and practise says ‘get a smear to check for changes’ Smear result comes back as only having looked for HPV and no further. Which wasn’t the point and even in the appt where said cervix Bled On The Test, I was told it would be checked Completely. Argh.

So the concrete house/building is up for sale. Looks restored since I was last here to see it!
Believed to be the oldest surviving example of this sort of prefab and reinforced concrete building. It’s known as Castle House and is in Bridgwater, Somerset.

Right. Cd player in car seems fine, and even dealt with the large buff area on one of the charity shop finds. So now the mission is to acquire the (OG variant) Pratchett audiobooks on CD, from charity shops natch.

When you remember there’s a CD player in the car, and the charity shop offers up things…
A selection of CD’s for the car from the charity shop - the very best of Jake Thackeray, Fred Astaire, Katie melua, Offenbach, & Eva Cassidy.

yesterday i was muttering about reading a million words. today i totally forgot about it until a few minutes ago... I think i'll do this, but will start on the TBR pile and work out the words from there. 10x100k books (ish) in 30days is very doable and, um, the pile is a fair bit longer than that!

littlepurplegoth @littlepurplegoth.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
so.... is there a list anywhere with the word counts of various books? the million thing itch is back and... i'm wondering if i could read a million in 30 days? (without re-reading the very large Alan Moore book. because yes, i would be re-reading as i got it from the library when it was first out)

Trying to recall the title of a book from my childhood: a what-technology-is-coming thing aimed at kids, published probably late 60s or early-mid 1970s, b/w line art. I remember a section on the nuclear-powered aircraft that would be arriving imminently. Author's name was Peter de Vries or similar?

Go somewhere not-here for the day, run into an old colleague (from somewhere far far distant in time (33 years ago!) and geography), and leave with them insisting they take your phone/email ‘cos I’ve got a project that you’d be brilliant for and I want to send you all the details’…

I’m finding that I can only do small chunks of stuff before I’m too warm and have to stop and sit in a cold breeze for a chunk of time. This is suboptimal in many ways, save that I’m getting a lots of reading done.
