Restricting covid vaccines to the elderly & those with preconditions does damage in many ways. It makes it harder for people to access a tool to keep healthy, while sending the (wrong) message that only the vulnerable need to worry about covid. We are ALL vulnerable and we ALL deserve protection

The U.S. remains in a moderate lull between COVID-19 surges. Also, FDA leaders just announced future COVID-19 vaccines will be limited to those over age of 65 and with health conditions that put them at “high risk for severe COVID-19,” until further clinical trials can be conducted. bit.ly/43l9XxI

A yellow background and a meter indicating moderate wastewater levels of SARS-CoV-2. The text reads: The U.S. remains in a moderate lull between COVID-19 surges, with national metrics reporting slow declines through mid-May. There are increases in disease spread in a few West Coast states, however, and new variants now arriving in the country are likely to spur outbreaks this summer.

Meanwhile, the FDA finally approved Novavax’s COVID-19 vaccine last weekend. But the vaccine was approved only for people over age 65 and those with health conditions that “put them at high risk for severe outcomes from COVID-19." FDA leaders also announced today that all future COVID-19 vaccines will be subject to the same restrictions, until further clinical trials can be conducted.

An article by Trump-appointed FDA officials explaining this new policy has no mention of Long COVID or of other measures Americans can use to protect themselves from COVID-19, such as high-quality masks.

Screenshots of a CDC chart titled: "Variants causing COVID-19 cases in the U.S. in spring 2025: CDC estimates based on reported sequencing results" Below, it shows eight bars, each representing a two-week period. Every bar has color-coded sections corresponding to different SARS-CoV-2 variants. The right-most two bars are shaded in gray to indicate that they are modeled estimates for recent weeks, with data subject to change.

A table titled, "Variants causing COVID-19 cases in the U.S. in spring 2025: CDC estimates based on reported sequencing results." It shows variant estimates for the most recent two-week period, with colors corresponding to the bars on the left. Variant LP.8.1, in bright orange, has dominated the variant landscape for most recent weeks, overtaking XEC, in green. However, a new variant called XFC, in brown, is now gaining ground, estimated to cause 9% of new cases in the most recent two-week period.

Mask bans are spreading (in blue states & red) The desire to cosplay 2019 normal is strong. No one wants a reminder of the pandemic. Governments want to quash protests & enhance surveillance Call your elected officials AND wear a mask! The more people wearing them, the harder they become to ban

People. Are. Dying. Of. Covid. In America. Every. Single. Day. At the peak of the summer 24 wave, the 2nd largest wave we’ve ever had, there were nearly 2000 deaths a week. There is no OTHER SIDE.

“worse. But when we came out the other side — 1.5 million fewer of us — we were, as a country, exhausted, resentful, deluded and distrustful. A huge amount of the world in which we now reside was formed in that crucible. I will write more about that next week.”

It’s never too late to start masking again. Repeat covid infections are not inevitable, no matter how much the government tries to say they are. When you wear a mask you help normalize them as public health tools. You make mask bans harder. You increase disability visibility, which we need now
