While my maternal grandmother was a Polish citizen, she lived most of her early life in Latvia. The past five days here have been amazing.

🤣 my sister pattern tested for these crochet birds and she said it was pretty easy (sub-text: even a rare crocheter like me could manage) so I gave it a go this afternoon. He's so wonky and I love him!!

My superhero rocked her clinic visit yesterday. She's chuffed because she is now 168cm and closing in on me pretty quickly. I'm chuffed because she advocated for herself (in German!!) and the pump is clearly making life easier and better for her.

Today would have been my Dad's 75th birthday. This was nine years ago when he last visited us in 2017. His was the first birthday celebrated in our new place. He helped us move and put together so much of our furniture. He was a good bloke, and he loved cake.

The Marmorkuchen went down well, too. I took slices of both cakes to the admin staff and security because we were all pretty sad yesterday.

It smells amazing. I didn't have a bundt pan so used a spring form ring tin - I was worried the batter would leak out as it really was very liquid. Nope. It's perfect. I used melted butter rather than oil simply because that's my preference.

It was twelve years since we moved to Germany on Tuesday and throughout that time we have occasionally said, "oh hey, we should go to Partnachklamm." We finally went today and boy it was worth the wait.

I'm not sure how to describe the effect exactly, but it's a photo of the sun shining through the top of the Partnach Gorge (Partnachklamm) near Garmisch-Partenkirchen. There are trees growing on top of the gorge and the light through the trees looks something like a blue and purple butterfly. The sky is bright, Bavarian blue.

My #Caturday contribution is not my cat, but my Mum's new resident, Babette. Mum had a bit of time before her dentist appointment and wandered into Petbarn, which just so happens to have an animal shelter attached to it. Babs is about five, had an abusive start in life, then a foster, now Mum.

On the bright side, now that our house guests and their associated luggage have left the building, I have space to block my Skiftie. It's way too warm to wear it now, but it will be ready to wear next Winter.

It's a pod change day! It's a sensor change day! It's a ✨combination pod and sensor change day✨! The G7 CGM lasts 10 days. The Omnipod lasts three. So every now and then the stars align and A has both on the same day. She's a champ. (She's also home with a respiratory virus 🦠) #T1D

My Dad always used to donate blood, and received two corneas from organ donors in his lifetime. I have always been quite terrified of needles so didn't donate blood until after he passed away. I'm going to try and do it more often so if anyone in Munich ever wants a blood donor buddy, I'm game!
