This lovely little street is Seckforde Street in Clerkenwell. Charles Dickens was a customer of the Finsbury Savings Bank on Seckforde Street and Clerkenwell is where Dodger takes Oliver pickpocketing. A house on this street recently sold for £2.2M #Dickens #literaryLondon #literarytravels

The Crown Tavern in Clerkenwell was once frequented by Karl Marx. In 1850 it was part of a pub crawl undertaken by Marx and his friend, Dr. Liebknecht. The pub is also proud of its boast that Lenin and Stalin first met here while students in #London #London #pubs #literarypubs #literarytravels

I’ve been in Devon where the poet, dramatist, and Scriblerian John Gay (1685-1732) was born on Joy Street, Barnstable. The site is now a beautiful Poundland, marked by a blue plaque. He went to school at nearby St. Anne’s grammar school, formally a chantry, now a chapel @literarybritain.bsky.social
