And was often a source of great friction

The character's contents
Didn't matter, you see
Only the people's satisfaction

But it was not meant to be
And the truth was as such
The visage was a clever distraction

The beast, fed up
With all the pretend
Went through with a transformation

She became something else
Something new, something whole
Through an act of self-sublimation

The only tree I know that got hit by lightning was in my grandparents yard when I was a kid, it was a much more severe case and the tree didn't make it and had to be removed. This poem Is kind of an homage to that tree, in a way. My cousins and I all missed that tree when it was gone.

Sometimes I curse these unfocused eyes

Regardless, it's a comfort - remembering the reflection in those eyes.

Anyway, as if it ever really could stop
In that there is surety in the knowledge
That there is never a return to strength
See why there's so much peace in dreams?
Naturally, that's the beginning of the pattern
And the perceivable ending of myself

Even so I've been trying to revive myself
Call it phonix down or resurrection, full stop
Maybe rip some stitches and alter the pattern
Surely that won't cheapen the knowledge
Of the danger lurking in the shadows of dreams
Maybe knowing, after all, will grant me strength

What if it's always been mine, that strength
That I'm looking for, maybe I've been myself
All along and there was nothing in the dream
That could harm me, just casting a time stop
So I could introspect, amass new knowledge
What if all of it was accounted for in the pattern

Maybe the dream, in its way, is my strength
And the pattern I've been cursing is myself
Does the cursing stop with that knowledge?
