We have absolutely glorious bike-riding weather in #Spokane in the fall. Being efficient is a bonus, but I do it for what I see and how I feel.

Spokane is what happens when thoughtful city leadership meets effective grassroots activism (Sarah Rose and @spokanereimagined.org are doing awesome work). Racking up real wins on housing and safer streets. Turns out we can try bold things to fix our cities without first studying them for years.

The Bicycle Advisory Board will be leading bike buddy rides on Sept. 15, from your local library or community center to City Hall, where there will be an additional ride looping downtown. Sprocket & Sprinkles will also be at City Hall, so be sure to get some ice cream and support a local business!
Bike Buddy Ride flyer shows four bicycle routes titled Bigfoot Race Group, Marmot Meander Group, Turkey Trot Group, and Goat Trail Group.

Critical fire weather conditions are expected Aug. 7-8. A combination of high temps, low humidity, and gusty winds will create an environment where new or existing fires can spread rapidly. Please remain vigilant, avoid activities that could cause a spark, and sign up for alerts at SCEM.org.

My statement on the U.S. Supreme Court’s Temporary Protected Status ruling. my.spokanecity.org/news/stateme...
Graphic reads, "Statement from Mayor Lisa Brown

“Yesterday’s Supreme Court decision clears the way for the Trump Administration to strip people with Temporary Protected Status, like Spokane’s Haitian community, of their safeguards and puts them at risk of removal from the United States. These are people who fled extraordinary violence, political instability, and natural disasters in search of safety.

“Instead of offering stability and a path forward, this decision leaves families in fear and puts lives at risk.

“Here in Spokane, our Haitian neighbors are more than a policy debate. They are healthcare workers caring for patients, caregivers supporting our seniors and children, and employees keeping our businesses running. They have built lives here and strengthened our community. It’s ironic that on the verge of our nation’s 250th birthday, the promises represented by the Declaration of Independence and the Statue of Liberty are being broken daily.

“Congress must act now to provide pathways to citizenship for those who want to pursue the American Dream.”
