Omg. I had somehow blocked that experience from my memory, and now I’m suddenly remembering orcs on pogo sticks?!?!

Only one way to find out! Louie, the walk up to the castle is fairly easy and has a great viewpoint. And make sure to watch out for all the dragons! For a day trip, there is Bled. Or you could visit the caves in Postojna. I also really liked the little coastal town of Piran.
Picture of a bridge in Lujubljana. The bottom of a lamp post is decorated with dragons. A view over the town of Piran looking out into the sea. It’s a small peninsula going out into the Adriatic Sea and crowded with buildings that have red roofs. To the right you can see a large church on a hill looming over the town.

guys, publishing a book really fast is a solved problem, we know how to do that. There are all sorts of fairly obvious logistical reasons why we don't crash-schedule every single book, not least ... have you ever been to a bookshop

Fun fact for a Friday evening: These were two of my favourite books as a kid, and I feel like that says a lot about me. #kidlit
Book cover of “Kat Kong” by Dav Pilkey. The cover shows a photograph of a cat with its front paws above its head and its mouth open like a yell. In one paw it holds a hamster wearing a bow on its head. The cat is towering over a city skyline. Book cover of “Dogzilla” by Dav Pilkey. It shows a photograph of a corgi dog sitting and is surrounded by an illustrated city that appears to be burning.

We got tricked by science fiction into thinking a futuristic city is all about flying cars and crystal towers and hologram billboards but what it really looks like is nice apartment blocks, good mass transit, pedestrian zones with shade trees and safe bike lanes.

Nice and bright in Belfast today, with added snow in the distance.
Photo of a landscape in Belfast (taken from Stormont Estate). In the foreground is bright green grass, a few bare trees and some ornate lamp posts. In the distance you can see some taller buildings, and beyond them are hills that are covered in snow. The sky is bright with a few clouds.

Today I have one book that needs US English changed to UK, and another book that needs UK to US… Chances I’ll not get mixed up?! 🙈 #editing #kidlit

Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance. Each year, the trans community loses too many lives, especially trans women of color, to hate and violence. More than ever, we must stand by our trans family and support them, hold space for them, and insist the scapegoating and targeting stop. Now.

Tonight at the studio: slightly wonky bookends! These are now bisqued and ready for glazing. #ceramics #bookends
Image of a set of bookends sitting on a table. They have triangular slabs that are painted to look like mountains. The bookends are made of clay and have had an initial firing, so the clay looks like a pale beige.

Happy editing! I’m also editing - changing a text from UK to US English, which always makes me a bit 🥴 by the end of the day.

Haven’t been posting on social media much, but I did make a clay otter last night. 🤞 it survives the kiln.
Image of an otter on its back, which is made out of brown clay. It is sitting on another base of clay that looks like water. (Or so I hope.)

Awww, hi Medusa! Cosmo is a Birman, and I think there's a little Birman in ragdolls which is why they look so similar.

Hi all! I'm a freelance editor and publishing consultant who helps publishers make fun and inclusive children's books. Here for the #publishing and #book talk, but also for #cats. My assistant, Cosmo, is mostly interested in the latter.
Picture of a cat sitting on a white shelf with a plant behind it. The cat is looking at the camera. It is fluffy and mostly white, but has brown fur on its face, ears tail and legs. It has light blue eyes.
