Running Moon Wolves 🐺🌙 My piece for the upcoming Artist Trading Card Show at Giant Robot Gallery! Art will be available online this Saturday, October 10th at 11am PT via the GR webstore here: www.giantrobot.com #art

Me holding up a 2.5 x 3.5 inch painting done with turquoise, dark blue, white, and red paint. It features two wolves wearing crescent moon blankets reminiscent of my ceramics style leaping from the edges of a floral border.

I bought this amazing tiger reliquary from @lioninthetrees.bsky.social a couple of months ago for my wife's birthday. Since her birthday has finally passed, I can post about it! Isn't it absolutely beautiful?

Ok so I bought some of those Ritz mini sleeves and the crackers are WAY LESS crumbly and don't feel as thin!! idk if this is just the mini sleeves or maybe enough people complained about the quality but it's possible Ritz crackers are back to normal-ish!

I think also, in my mind, I tell myself that I'm the adult of the house and life, and no one else is going to be making these phone calls or taking care of these things on my behalf so I just have to suck it up and get it done.

It's funny how constantly phoning all of my senators and representatives back during Trump's first presidency really got me over my aversion to making phone calls LOL Nowadays, it's no big deal if I need to ring up a business or someone and I'll do it immediately instead of postponing it for days.

I wrote about Fresno Nightcrawler Fest and why I organised the event in the first place over on my blog— lioninthetrees.com/blog/2026/10...

It was indeed! And yes!! Honestly, I bet even back in caveman times they were arguing over using water vs piss or blood to make their paints so maybe we're all just repeating history LOL And yeah, we all need to carry on with what we're doing and continue pushing past these silly boundaries. ✨💖

the painters or potters. You belong to both! And you also have a home by simply being an artist. And I'm sure in a generation or two, feelings will change regarding pre-made bisqueware to the point where no one's going to care all that much because it has a necessary place and purpose.

130

a desire to express it through art and creativity. Anyways, it reminded me of this conversation about pre-made bisqueware vs handmade/wheel thrown bisque, and how you don't really feel like you have a home with either "side". But I hope you realise that you don't have to have a home with either

And how if you used commercially made stuff then you weren't a "real ceramicist/pottery". And how nowadays, nobody gives a shit. And then he went on to talk about painting as a medium in some way that I can't quite remember. But part of his point was that we're all artists with something to say and

Amy! I went to a workshop put on by a ceramicist today and he was sharing about how when he was an undergrad back in the day the two schools of thought were whether or not you harvested your own clay and made your own glazes vs if you used commercially made products.

I'm so tired I keep seeing the word "wound up" and I feel like I spelled "wound" wrong because isn't that another word and the word for "wound up" feels like it should be spelled differently????

I am so ready for some rest though. Organising a last minute festival right off the heels of my solo show was not the wisest thing to do, honestly. But it's something that needed to be done for the people of Fresno and I knew I just had to do it now instead of sitting on this idea for another year.

Fresno Nightcrawler Fest wound up being a major success for everyone and I genuinely feel so happy, and can't fall asleep because I'm just buzzing and fizzing with such good feelings. I'll write a blog post about it but I'm so proud of myself and everyone who came together to make it a success.

Right??? I just imagine what their sense of scale is/how they perceive the world around them. idk what they'll do if they ever learn just how big the Earth itself is!! LOL

And you know what's crazy? This stuff looks astronomically huge to us but it's possible that 46.5 billion light years could be the size of a penny to something or someone else that's outside of our universe.

Yeah, glazing in and of itself is SO CHAOTIC LOL It's so heartbreaking to spend all that time making the perfect vessel and then it turns to shit because your glaze didn't work out the way you wanted.

I think it also helps make pottery—and making art—more accessible/less intimidating. I love those paint-your-own pottery places because people can come and just have fun without worrying about whether or not their piece has a perfect form vs if they were to take a wheel throwing class.

140

(Not the Horror Author) Shirley Jackson @lioninthetrees.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

Exactly. And I think with your work you're coming at it from the POV of a painter first and foremost. And given how time intensive your paintings are, I can see it being more practical and efficient for your work flow (and process) to use pre-made bisqueware!

120

(Not the Horror Author) Shirley Jackson @lioninthetrees.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

made is not really that big of a deal. And so I can see how whether or not you threw your own pot—or made your own sculpture—can matter to someone and change their impression of your work. But I don't think it should denigrate the artist or the work itself.

130

(Not the Horror Author) Shirley Jackson @lioninthetrees.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

I think ceramics is still a little different in nature compared to painting because ceramics as a medium is largely about making things with your hands or via the wheel (but still with your hands). Whereas painting is more about what's on the surface of the canvas, and how the canvas itself was

130

(Not the Horror Author) Shirley Jackson @lioninthetrees.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

Honestly, I used to feel some type of way regarding pre-made bisqueware. But viewing it from the perspective of painters using pre-made canvases has changed my opinion to some degree. It kind of reminds me of screen-printing with your own hands vs using an automatic printing press.
